Hello again all.

I was looking to order a pair of the tailgate lift supports for my friend's Volvo. I was looking to find the best price or if there are any other equivalents that are more readily available that can be used. Any suggestions?

I've tried ebay and am looking at some online parts places such as autopartswarehouse and online sources for local stores.

Thanks all!

The cheapest are from FCP Groton. They're 25 a piece. I just put these on my wagon and they work well. Just watch out when you install them b/c they have a C clip that you have to undue so they fit on and then re-fasten it. It's very easy but it threw me off at first...I had to ask someone.

Excellent! Thanks so much!

Never did update on this one!

I ordered the supports late this past Thursday and they arrived today! VERY FAST SHIPPING from that company! Great find and thanks again! Will install them in her car tomorrow!

Good lord! How do you manage to compress these things enough to get them to line up on the mounting points?

I tried to install them today, but could not get them to compress AT ALL. Only needs about 1/8 inch of travel in, but it was impossible. Came home, put them on a jack and managed to compress them fine. How can I compress them to install them?

Thanks again!

Ahh yes there in lies the problem! I can think of two possible fixes for this. The first is to have someone else hold up the tailgate and move it up or down to line it up correctly. If that does not work I believe you can adjust where you pop them on (bolts if I'm remembering correctly) by moving the mount.

EDITED: Sorry didn't notice you have a Vagon... Still hope my info could be useful..

You don't need to compress them to install. Actually you can destroy these trying to compress.

Install the mounts on the trunk lid arms. Then install inner part first (where the hook).

Push them hard -you should be able to hear "click".

Then ask someone hold the wide opened trunk , and you pull out the C- shaped spring (use a small screw driver or something) and put the strut on the "ball".

Release the spring by removing the screwdriver.
You are done.

I had a friend holding the trunk lid open all the way and tried that the first time around. He couldn't open the lid any further and it was the small amount that I need to get the other side to line up. I'll give it another shot. Thanks!

Finally got a chance to have the car back again. I ended up having to loosen the front mounting bracket.

These ones appear to be a bit longer than the Volvo ones, but they work great! Thanks again Big Will for the Groton suggestion, and thanks to everyone for their replies!
