I had my dealer install the V50 bodykit on my new 2006 V50 T5 AWD. After the install I noticed that the tailpipes and tailpipe extensions drooped down at an odd angle, without any cutout for the pipes on the rear valance (see photo) . At the time I thought it was strage but decided to take the car and do some research. I found a photo on Volvo's website showing how the tail pipes and rear valance should look, including a cutout for the pipes (see second photo) . At first the dealer was sympathetic, and told me that the exhaust assemblies should look like the second photo, but after leaving the car there for 3 days I am told that the exhaust is the 'way that VIN number came' and they can't do anything to fix it! It all sounds pretty fishy to me and I wanted to know if any other readers have had a similar problem. Also I want to know how to contact Volvo US to discuss this issue. How are they to deal with regarding problems like this???
Thanks!

yea, i'd bring that right back to the dealer and demand that they get it right.
That's ridiculous that they would even let it leave the shop like that. Have they no pride in a quality product?

Re: (Dygitalpmp)

I had a shop install an exhaust only to leave the tip hanging like that. their reason- so it won't burn the rear bumper. gee , how nice but I'd rather take that chance than have a tip sit that low. btw , had the tip done right up on the body, no problems. have them fix it.

Re: Tail Pipe Saga (mlenox)

as far as I know, there should be cut outs in the OEM body kit for the tailpipes to fit into.
I have the same car, same body kit and the same Volvo tips. They point down a bit more than I would like, but nowhere close to how yours sit...
I think there are lines on the inside of the rear skirt that show where the cutouts are supposed to be. Dealer should have cut these before painting and installing the kit. Pic of my setup below...

yea.... i know that the body shop at my dealership cut out my bumper. Actually yours is the only case that i've seen/heard of that isn't cut out to fit the pipes. It just sucks that you'll have to go through the hassle of getting it fixed
Re: Tail Pipe Saga (mlenox)

OK, so now after a week at the dealer they are telling me that there is nothing that they can do! I am now going to write a letter to the General Manager and try to get things resolved.
BTW, the dealer is Volvo of Marin.
Does anyone have a contact address for Volvo USA? This issue just seems ridiculous and I would like to get it resolved ASAP.

If you look behind the rear valance (under the car) you will be able to see the distinct cut out lines for the T5.

Re: Tail Pipe Saga (mlenox)

It looks like they order a OEM bodykit for a non-T5 engine.
I'm pretty sure the bodykit for a T5 has those holes for the exhaust from the beginning.
You have to get them to order correct parts.

Re: Tail Pipe Saga (mlenox)

Was able to get the tailpipes corrected at the dealer after contacting the General Manager and including photos of how the car should look. You can see an 'after' shot here: . It DOES seem to work sometimes to write a firm but nice letter to the GM to get the job done, as the Service Manager wasn't willing to work with me and just offered to reimburse me to get the muffler shop to deal with the situation.
Anyway, I am totally happy with the outcome and would like to thank other Swedespeed members for their help.
