[Chasp]

All,

I have an '06 that when I crank to start the Tach needle jumps up to 3,000 rpm. This doesn't happen all the time, but only every so often. Is there a problem with my electrics or something?

Does it idle at this RPM or just spike? When your car is cold and you 1st start it, it goes into a high idle to warm it up, then returns to normal idle, which is usually something around 750 RPMs. My high idle is 1500RPMs, but IIRC I've seen other Rs go higher.

When you start your car, do you hit the gas?

Only when starting does it jump up. The car idles fine and the needle moves to the correct levels as the engine warms up.

It's like it getting an electrical surge, but this needle jump doesn't happen everytime.

Do you mean when you put the key in and turn it, when the engine is turning over, or when the engine is going through it's "high rpm warmup"?

Every once and awhile, my needles jump. It only happens when the car is off, and when I touch the key to the metal surround around the ignition key hole.... very weird.

Mine idles at 2K when cold; this is normal. I've never seen it idle higher than that though...even in the cold.

HAH!!! So I'm NOT crazy!! I got into my car late last week, and wasn't really looking, and as I was putting the key into the ignition, I thought I saw something jump out of the corner of my eye! When I looked, I realized it must have come from the tach...then I thought that I must be crazy... Glad to know I'm not!!

I've always thought it was just from the movement of me getting into the car.

Me too at first! But then it happened once after a hard day of work, I just got in and sat there with my head on the headrest for a second, then I went to start it and it happened.

Ok glad I'm not the only one.

... and my speedometer jumped today as I first opened the door to get in too. *shrug* 's long as they keep doing what they're supposed to once the car is on.
