ICE charging is not as efficient. It is physics topic indeed. Energy is generated by burning fuel in ICE, then used to spin the CISG motor to generate electricity to charge battery. Later on road, battery is used to power the rear motor. But battery could never output the same amount of charged energy because it consumes some portion. CISG and rear motor also waste some energy for sure. Overall maybe only 70% (for example) of ICE energy is delivered to the wheel. If ICE drives wheel directly, maybe this number is 85%.

Similarly, B mode or aggressive regeneration or single pedal driving is not as efficient because you spent more than adequate energy and recapture only some part of it by regenerative braking, and then some of the regenerated energy is consumed within battery and motor. The best way for efficiency is to keep constant speed as long as you could.

Practically I only do following simple things:

- Use hybrid mode usually. When at the last 2 miles from home, switch to pure mode. This squeezes the last available juice from battery and it will be plugged in at home.

- Sometimes I use pure mode to get a little more EV power than hybrid mode.

- When destination is in a city and I want EV driving there, I put the car in hold mode with some remaining miles. Or use charge mode to bring up battery level as needed.

- B mode is used when going downhill so it is easier to control the brake under my foot.

Overall I think EV is much better than ICE below 30mph, and ICE is better at higher speed, say 50+mph. My idea is to use battery as long as possible at low speed. This is the only thing I think clearly positive for efficiency. Other tricks maybe could be better but hardly noticeable.

I started fiddling with the hold and charge buttons for the first time today. They do work great BUT it takes a lot of work and attention off the road to be on point with it which makes me question: Shouldn't all this be happening automatically?
I placed Hold button on the left top corner of screen, charge button is next to it. So I can click them easily and don't need to look at the screen. Anyhow I don't use them that much, and most of time I have PA on. It is not problem taking eyes off road for a glance at Sensus.
