So can u keep the hvac on the t8 all night? If I’m out camping, will the engine charge the battery? It would be pretty cool if it could. I’ve seen people talking about the new f150 to camp in much less the Prius lol.

That's an interesting question. It has to be in ignition II for HVAC, and that would drain the battery fairly fast because all of the systems are energized.

I'm not sure what happens when the battery is depleted and you're not actively driving. ICE shuts off unless you force it to run.

I had my parents with me and left the HVAC running at 78F for a 30 minute ferry ride on a 105F day last year and it drained about 1/8th of the battery. You can do the math.

No, I have tried in our hour long ferry rides and the engine does kick in from time to time. But probably after 30-45 minutes and for a few seconds only.
