I tried the search and really this is just pure curiousity, but what are the structural differences between the T5 engine and the 2.4T engine. I know they're both inline-5, DOHC turbocharged engines. The T5's only a 2.3L, but has a higher output (247/243 vs. 197/210) and I'm guessing a lot of that has to do with the boost on the turbo. In theory though, with the slightly higher displacement, the 2.4 could be "easily" tuned well above the T5.. or am I missing some other information.
The lack of a "tuning" forum on here leads me to believe that most Volvo owners don't do much in the way of aftermarket tuning.. not that there's anything wrong with that (I drive a Subaru WRX and am probably one of the few who plan to leave it mostly stock).

Cougar,
In my country every third T5 and 2.4T is tuned.......
The T5 engine is stronger, more rigid and has a smaller bore. 81mm vs 83mm.
The compression ration is lower 8.5:1 vs 9:1 which limits the amount of boost on the 2.4T
I think there might be some other things which make the T5 the stronger engine but I don't know all the specs.
The turbo's are different also.
Somebody told me that the T5 is even stronger than the 2.4 R engine.

Yes, the T5 has been adapted for the higher boost with a stronger head gasket, stronger cranks, lower compression ratio (to prevent predetonation) and special oil cooling of the pistons, to name a few.

And I do not write this in a condescending way...
Certainly, the European Volvo owners are more into their cars than the Volvo owners here. But a European has a different relationship with his/her car than the American driver. But this is a whole different story and covers many different and...difficult subjects!
WRX, huh? One of the cars that I have not had the chance of running against...Would be an interesting battle. I have driven one, last year. Neat little package and once it gets going...pretty darn quick! Not my cup of tea, though. I think I am too...old for this type of car... The only Subie I have ever owned was a '92 SVX AWD.
