Hi guys,
I'm looking at getting a T5 lump (as they are cheap, reliable and resonably powerfull when chipped)
However it will not be going i a Volvo as I am building a Seven style car (see pic below). As you can probably see from the pic these are RWD and front engined.
Is there a volvo box & dif that will mate up to a T5 lump available? if so which one?

Many thanks in advance.
Dan

Re: T5 RWD Options??? (Dan..)

I believe the Volvo 960 had a manual trans that fit the engine, since it went with the 6 cylinder, and the engines are the same, except for the number of cylinders. You'd have to go to Sweden to get one, and I'd consider trying to figure a way to modify the oil pan for RWD. There was a guy on Volvospeed that modified a 6 cylinder RWD oil pan to fit his 5 cyilinder T-5 that he was converting to RWD. Simply machined out a section of the pan, but it was designed for RWD from the start.

Re: T5 RWD Options??? (wizzard_al)

Are you in Peterborough ON or ditto UK? If you're in Ontario there's been a few lads with Locost projects on the CASC-OR board ( http://www.casc.on.ca/forums/ ) and some of the members are Volvo owners. If you post this on the CASC board you may come up with someone familiar with both Locosts and Volvos who may be able to help. There's also a lad who makes industrial gearboxes and will also make/modify ones for cars. I don't remember the name right now, but he's somewhere in SW Ontario (maybe St. Thomas?).

Yes there is a Volvo gearbox that fits directly on the 5cyl Volvo engines.
It's called M90 and you can find it in manual 960's.
However there's a model of M90 that is for the "red engines" (B230FT).
And somone talked about the oilpan, if you don't have room for the "T5" pan you can shortend a 960 pan.
And also the engine mounts from a 960 fits bolt-on.
And there are a few versions of intake mainfolds. There is one that doesen't have the throttle "the wrong way". They have the throttle downwards instead.
