I'm going to change the S60 to Synthetic oil and will be changing to Amsoil 10W-30 because I have heard only great things about it. My question is for the first oil change, switching from Dino oil to Synthetic. I have heard that the first time after you switch you need to get a oil change in 1000 miles. Then I talked to a local shop that carries Amsoil and they said that they can run and engine flush to get rid of the old oil. Which way is the correct way to do it? Any other recommendations for changing like a different weight oil? I like in Sunny Southern California if that helps any. TIA everyone!

Re: Synthetic Oil (TurbobrickT5)

I think that both ways is the right way to do it, it just depends on which one you prefer personally. It just depends on if you want to make a quick second visit or have it done all at once.<p>-Drew

Re: Synthetic Oil (TurbobrickT5)

Hey I live in OC too. I just switched to Amsoil too. Where do they sell it around here??? I have been ordering it from the Amsoil Corp Website.<p>Also go read the Amsoil site and read the diffrences between there oils. If you want to run a "pure" synthetic then you should run there series 2000 oil 0W-30. Its kind of expensive, but by everything I have read even from some place that test oils and lubes. Its the best period. There XL 7500 line of oils is to compete with the new formulations of oils like Mobil 1 etc.... Which are NOT true synthetics even though it says so on the bottle. Read what the Amsoil site says. Its interesting. Let me know where you get Amsoil around here.<p>Thanks. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <br>

Re: Synthetic Oil (Beemer_eater)

The shop that I went to is US Automotive in Mission Viejo. They owner was going to test out the 0W-30 2000 series Amsoil in his car. He said that he would be able to get a hold of some if I wanted to use it. Right now I'm at University of California Riverside and one of my suitemate's dad, he lives in Santa Monica, is supposedly a supplier of Amsoil. He is going to call his dad later today and get me some pricing. I don't know if I should used the 2000 series (product code TSO) or just the one that says 100% Synthetic Turbo Foumlated (product code ATM). The price difference on Amsoil's site is $2.50 a quart. Where in OC do you live?

Re: Synthetic Oil (Beemer_eater)

I think you understood the post wrong. I was sort of unclear about it. The price different i was refering to was how the Amsoil 2000 series 0W-30 cost $8.35 and the Amsoil synthetic 10W-30 Turbo Formulated is $5.85 which is a $2.50 difference. I should have the price by the end of the day. You are on my way to school so if I do get some I could meet you somewhere if it is any cheaper. It would save me the trouble of shipping it and you the cost of shipping... <br>We will see...

George-<br>The price for the 0W-30 Series 2000 is about 72 dollars per 12 quarts case. The price might be slightly higher since Amsoil recently had a price increase. My suitemate's dad will check to make sure this weekend so I can give you a definate answer by next week.

Just know that the Series 2000 from Amsoil is about 110 regular price including shipping. Amsoil recently raised the price of their oil. If you are looking to change your oil a lot then look at Amsoil website, they have a preferred customer membership. It is 20 bucks a year and you save like 20% on the oil. <A HREF="http://https://www.amsoil.com/preferred.htm" TARGET="_blank">https://www.amsoil.com/preferred.htm</a>

What about Red Line Synthetic oil? They are endorsed by Volvo North America according to the lastest issue of the IPD catalog (page 21).<p>Also what weight would you guys reccomend for someone in the Northeast? Not sure if I should go with a 5W30 or a 10W30 for the winter.<p>Ron

If your turbo Volvo is not upgraded, then it will be OK> If you live in a warm climate, 5W-30 would be the recommended viscosity. If you car is upgraded, then you want to increase the viscosity to a 40 or 50.<p>Yannis
