One of my bulbs just burned out after just a few months of use but it's my fault. When twisting the rear cover I stripped the wire in the process and made a nice short. Some older Lexus and Mercedes cars have stock yellow fogs too. Yellow main headlights are illegal I think. Actually I think any color other than stock is illegal. Anyway, if you want something cheaper than PIAA you can try GP Thunder, Luminics, or Nokya bulbs off eBay. Bulb size is H3 in case you didn't know.

On the site it states the high beam uses a 9005. If you want yellow, the PIAA Plasma H3 is the way to go!!

Re: switching out fog lamps (PhilUp)

ya i thought so too. i've seen a ton of lexus's with yellow but in reading the product description of the PIAA yellows it says its intended for off road and show purpose. thats what got me confused.. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/zeroforum_graphics/screwy.gif" BORDER="0"> <p><A HREF="http://www.eautoworks.com/product-PIAA-23933.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.eautoworks.com/product-PIAA-23933.htm</A><p>is that because they are talking about the headlights not the fog lights?

OEM Fogs are 2700-3200K. I will have to put my meter on them and give you an exact number later. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0">

Has anyone swapped the DRL bulbs for yellow/amber ones? I think that would look fun.

Re: switching out fog lamps (mikesR)

In CA you are allowed to have white or amber forward lamps, so as long as it's not some crazy hyper yellow, you should be fine.

Re: switching out fog lamps (adykes)

ok thanks. i think i'm going for the amber but i have one last question. is the higher temperature of the amber bulbs going to be a problem? for example, the Putco Pure Jet Yellow uses 55W but the temp is 3000K. how hot is the original and will it be a problem if this one is hotter? thanks a lot <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/cool.gif" BORDER="0"> <p><A HREF="http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Putco-331516.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Putco-331516.htm</A>

Re: switching out fog lamps (mikesR)

3000K is the color temperature not the actual thermal temperature. 55W is the stock wattage so you should be ok BUT low-quality aftermarket bulbs can burn hotter and actually melt connectors and housings. They can even short out electrical systems so using aftermarket bulbs can be a gamble. I've been ok so far with GP Thunder and Luminics bulbs in my DRL's and Hoen in my fogs. <p>

My GP Thunders have been going strong for more than a year including a week long cross country road trip.
