Technically...there isn't a way to get one without doing an OSD for a new Volvo. I guess...if you knew someone who had an extra one, you could ask them to give/sell it you....but just about everyone who goes and picks up a new car, wants to keep the red tourist tag as a souvenier. You can't blame them
Love my red plates. The whole time in Sweden I only saw one other OSD car (a blue S60R) and I got to wondering... are the red plates really for tax reasons (to be sure we take the car out of the country) or are they really so the locals can easily identify clueless and lost tourists and get out of the way?
Tax reasons....but the "story" is that they are for the tourist who don't know where they are going!
The Swedes have a good sense of humor!
LOL Bob! You should have seen the look on the 2 officiers that pulled me over in Amsterdam. They pulled me over from the front, so I got a clear look at the stund look on their faces as they looked at the red plates. The next remark was the cop saying, "your not around form here are you?"
I got something better...a police escort back to the hotel! We showed them the vacation planner explained we were lost and just avoided a double parked car. They gave me a little talk then said follow us.
To tell you the truth we were just following the officers onto the section of tracks and the nav system.
