Re: CANfoolery (adykes)

Here's some pics of the iPd softloader unit. Its an Auterra (www.auterraweb.com) unit with CAN support obviously. All the CAN communications must be in the iPd/Auterra drivers. I haven't tried to see if the Auterra drivers are compatible yet but I do know they install correctly.
iPd Softloader:
Notice the plasters IC. Either an off the shelf chip or a PIC?

Auterra DynoScan OBD2 Driver Installation

From a price point perspective I'd like to get a hold of the MTE software that comes with it and see if I can use it with my $50 elm327 bluetooth adapter. I guess if they were ***** they could have locked the software to certain USB devices. i wouldn't think so though, would have to see the obd config to know for sure.

This is not a group buy roll call or anything but would anyone be interested in a DiCE tool for $400? I'm in the process of negotiating with my supplier. You'd still have to get VIDA somehow.

just about anything a dealer can do with Vida + dice. Can't apply software updates and such though....well maybe you could if you had a current Vida subscription.

Re: (MrTippy)

OK so I think I'm getting somewhere with understanding how the CAN works and actually obtaining values. I have been told how to retrieve stored DTCs from the ECU via communication via the CAN. I have not actually tested it but two separate people have confirmed it working on a bench test communication with an ME7. I have asked them to look into obtaining boost and coolant temps directly from the ECU and am waiting to hear back! cross your fingers!

I just purchased a IPDUSA softloader but if I could get my mitts on a DICE equiv for $400 - I'd be all in.
I too have been snooping around the CANBUS with my ELM device, reading codes etc. I used various tools to try and talk to the car without much success however.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

sorry, right now I can only get the price negotiated down to $530 plus shipping with a minimum order of 3. I'm still working on getting it down to $400.

Re: (MrTippy)

i've never seen a knockoff of a Volvo DICE tool The DICE tool I am negotiating for looks like all the generic DICE tool pictures you see on the Internet. example:
http://www.obdmb.com/UpLoadFil...0.jpg
If they are knockoffs then they would have to be very good knockoffs. You are either a DICE tool or you aren't. But let's be clear, Volvo does not make the DICE tool. A supplier makes it to their specifications and Volvo slaps their name on it and puts it in a blue Volvo box. That's what I'm negotiating on. A lot of people are skeptical that you can get DICE tools so cheap, but the only reason they are expensive at dealerships is because Volvo doesn't want you to have one.
oh also, I'm just negotiating for the tool itself and not a bluetooth dongle, which you would need to communicate wirelessly. you would also need VIDA but I will not discuss the ways to get that here.

Like I said, I would be interested. As for VIDA, I've seen them on Ebay at various price points.

Re: (inteller)

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your effort.
Of course, Volvo does not make its diagnostic equipment...
But there is a lot of imitation stuff out there--just look at ebay. Counterfeit VCT2000's are being sold. It would not be difficult for the right company to knock-off a DICE and I expect they would be drawn to it given its high OEM price.Tthere are many companies in China & Hong Kong that are reselling this stuff--far more than those that are actually making anything--let alone being actual OEM'ers.
I have been told that the interface boxes in themselves are not terribly complex as these things go, but ultimately it comes down to whether they work flawlessly with VIDA or not.
My caveat emptor alarm always goes off when something looks too good--because it usually is. (How's that for mixing cliches )
I am not suggesting that you discontinue your efforts, but I do recommend getting one and testing it before jumping in for a bunch.

http://www.ec21.com/ec-market/volvo_vida_dice.html
Some of these places even advertise a cracked version of VIDA with their "box;" which is, strictly speaking, illegal to import into the US...
I have no doubt that the majority of resellers on this list are selling knocked off DICE versions, i.e. copies of trademarked and copyrighted products--with no guarantee that they would make it through US customs.

Re: (MrTippy)

yes but that is an issue with VIDA, not the DICE tool. I'm only looking at just the DICE tool.
