What is the life expectancy of the various expensive 4C components in these cars? I'm curious since I have that sinking feeling that I'll be coming up on a major repair interval, now at 46k miles...

im at 88k right now....my 4C started F'n up about 1.5-2k ago right around 86k i guess.
yeah get ready to bite the bullet and if u are a DIY'r like myself do all the mechanical replacements ur self and research sourcing ur parts because VOLVO will RAPE you. even after i do the mechancial end of it i HAVE to go there because of the 4C and VADIS and there are ZERO indys in FL i can find that have VADIS and have the know/how to work on 4C.

Could be DEM, could be a yaw sensor. Could be the SUM (gives input to DEM).

Re: (Needsdecaf)

I would love it if all my 4C stuff dies between 80-90K miles, because then I get it all replaced under CPO and I'm good until 160K+!

Re: Suspension and AWD (Needsdecaf)

Volvo told me my front left strut is blown and the front right was close (it is now) and that the SUM module was throwing errors ( i dont trust this dealer it isnt the one i had my Bevel/Angle repaired at and i didnt like them that much) the one i had my AWD repaired at had a very R knowledgeable SA.
So i am replacing the mechanicals i KNOW are wrong and getting a second opinion on the electronic side of the SUM (if the SUM Mod is in fact shot i am still ordering a used one from another car i am NOT paying $600 for something that SHOULDNT EVER malfunction really) and also on the Anti-Skid because i dont have much of any DIY at home way to diagnose that

I had one strut ( front right I believe) replaced recently under my warranty and would have cost me over $600 for just the one strut.
This car certainly is a money pit. I don't like living in fear of the next breakdown. That is what makes this car NOT a keeper.

Darryl Waltrip Volvo/Hnda has them for $325 each shipped. By the way welcome to my world. I have been dealing with 4C issues all year. Whole new front suspension , struts, control arms, springs ,seats, end links, and 3 months later bang, also new accelorometers!
Bought most of my parts from Darryl Waltrip. Ready to shoot the car up and get something different. After parts and labor I spent well over $2K. And that's the cheap way out.. Did not use the dealer for nothing around me. Good Luck. Oh and my mileage is 77K. All of theis started at around 74K.
Bottom line is 4C will rape your pockets and 4C SUCKS. Still waiting for a way to fool the system and get a nice sport suspension in there.
Also when you bring it to the dealership you can ask them for the printout of what codes were thrown, they have to give it to you if you paid for the diagnosis, whether out of pocket or through warranty.

JARMO has gone into much detail about this regarding his Nurburgring experiences, and a few others have as well. Having tracked my R on both smooth and moderately rough racetracks, I have to applaud Advanced mode for really allowing relatively inexperienced drivers like myself to quickly get the maximum performance out of the car while also keeping the driver out of trouble when mistakes are made. I've never had trouble keeping up with any other car on the twisty bits of the racetrack that was also on street tires, even ones that are half the weight, or twice the power, or both!
Honestly the only thing I want to change on my R's suspension on track would be perhaps slightly stiffer sways, moreso in the rear, and then dial in a bit more negative camber in the front.
On the street, yeah it would be nice if it soaked up bumps like an XC70, but every car in the world will have a handling vs comfort trade-off.

before you buy all that - take the car to margate volvo - ask for David and have him hook it up. He'll let you know what's wrong before you start buying all of that.

Re: (dc2774)

Margate is the one I like. Thats where i had my new angle gear installed.
I took it to Suburban Volvo Palm Beach...dont go there. The facility is not impressive and i was not impressed with my SA either. Older guy and he was kind of a dick.
Well i havent bought anything unnecessary yet. i know the struts are shot, and while im in there i figured id replace the strut mount (bearings) because of the mileage. When all my parts come in I am going home the weekend of the 15th to install everything Friday (take the day off) and then take it in to Margate Saturday to get everything checked out with the antiskid and SUM issues. I will open up the SUM module before then prolly to check for oxidation/rust anything suspect. From just looking at it it looks fine but i just pulled the trim and carpet back before work the other day was all.
is David the guy who just had a baby around a year ago (when i had my angle gear in)? The guy i am talking about was very R knowledgeable.
