So, my sunroof has always been noisy. I never use the darn thing, but I certainly wouldn't mind it being fixed. Decided to look into it today, and it appears to just be an issue with some broken clips on the shade cover.
Was playing with it a bit to see how the button works for the sunroof (since, like I said, I never use it). I see there are two stages for the button so you can choose where to open it to or just have it auto open all the way. (Same with closing.) Well, while I was trying to shut it, it seems like it got caught on something, and now the darn thing refuses to close all the way... Is there some way to recalibrate this stupid POS so it will close? Unplug the battery? Turn the key in the driver's door? Something else? (I'll probably go try those two things now just to see, but I would have to assume there's some official way to calibrate the travel range...)
Thanks!

My sunroof sucks too, it has never worked the way it should, when I go to close it it goes past closed and right to vent mode. Then I have to play with the button until it is just right. I think it's loosening too as time goes by, I can hear it shake sometimes over large patches of rough pavement.
It used to close properly until today? I would check for for any debris that might have gotten in the way of it closing. Open it up and look for any acorns or small children that might have fallen in there causing it to hang up. I don't know of any way to reset these things, though I have wondered if a software upgrade might help.

Re: (NJGreenBudd)

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I wish it didn't even have a sunroof to begin with...
I think the last time I used the stupid thing was over a month ago, and it was more of a just "lets play with this" kinda thing... So, I doubt there's any debris in there (besides maybe bits previously broken off of the sun shade) and I have lost little kids in transit before, so I now keep embarking/disembarking records just to make sure I have everyone, so no little kids have fallen in...
Battery is currently disconnected and leads connected together in an attempt to get the module to reset. Will report back after I've tried that.

Ugh...
Well, unplugging the battery did jack s**t... Still doesn't close all the way. Stops about 3 inches short. Pushing the sunroof button up so as to put it into vent mode when it gets to that point makes it close another inch or two, but it still sits wide open...
Anyone happen to have any idea how to fix this?

Doesn't anybody know:
#1
Does this thing about a manual screw close on the motor (which is supposedly located under where the sunroof button is) actually apply to our cars and
#2
How do you get that panel off so I can check??? I'm about to just rip the piece of sh!t down I'm so pissed off at this stupid car (but I'm sure I will only regret it later once I've hopefully gotten the sunroof closed only to never touch it ever again )

My parents? WTF are you talking about?
In other news, fed the motor 12V straight up, and it still won't shut all the way. Hoping to be able to dismantle the stupid crap with it only mostly closed...

Well, at least this story has a happy ending.
Ever since I got the car, the shade for the moonroof hasn't run smoothly and has made all sorts of horrible noises when slid. It turns out there are some terribly designed clips/sliders which are intended to keep the shade in the right spot, and a piece of it broke off and found its way into the rail. Pulled the remnants of that clip off and also the other three, and now it works better than ever!
Once again, make your Volvo better by removing parts...

Re: (Chilled Man)

You guys must be gorillas or something. I have never broke the sun shade in any of my Volvo's.
Though I am not that strong, maybe my frailness makes me easier on things...

That probably will remedy other UEM-related gremlins that haven't surfaced yet as well.

Re: (StarmanDXE)

I am having the exact same problem on my s40.
I bought mine used, and the headliner was replaced with some thick plush.
It kept shorting my fuses at first too. I had to open it up and manually adjust the motor to open. . Moved the wires around and secured the electrical tape, looks like they may have been cut.
Not sure if I got a short somewhere or some sensor is mis-wired? Motor faulty?
But here is a video of my issue. Friend edited dunno why he put in video after.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwEKOlEraso
When you close it closes but vents up, it wont auto level and close, you have to keep playing with it back and fourth to get it to an eye level close position. which is annoying. I dread when someone gets in my car and hits sunroof button instead of the light.
Any solution would be welcome.
