Long-time Volvo owner here, with a new (to me) 2017 XC90 T8 R-Design. So far I love everything about the car EXCEPT.......

There seems to be quite a bit of wind noise coming from the sun roof. I took a look up top, and have the common gap in the rubber seals near the back of the sun roof, which others have mentioned potentially leading to water leaks (I haven't seen any water leaks yet). I can't really seem to find people complaining about wind noise from the sun roof, but I'm sure I can't be the only one? Anyone else had this problem and have any ideas?

Thank you!

I have a MY2016 that has a noticeable wind noise from the middle of the sun roof when driving faster than 150 Km/h. The two glass segments are not 100% aligned (the front part is a bit “higher” than the back) so I suspect it’s either turbulence generated by this gap or air infiltrating through it. But I don’t drive much at 150 km/h plus speeds, so I haven’t bother to take care of it....

Thanks for the response. If anything, your info tells me something is definitely wrong with mine, as I hear wind noise there even when driving on side roads at like 40 MPH (65 KPH) , or when parked and it's really windy out. I'll also take a look at my alignment between the two panes, but form what I recall, mine are aligned well. Thanks!

Might the moving panel not close fully? Maybe there is debris that reduces the contact pressure but not look like there is a visible gap. Does it sound like when one of the side window panels are lowered just slightly that it doesn't appear open (as the edge of the glass is still hidden behind the window seal mechanism)?

If there is a gap in the sealing strip that alone cannot cause a water leak. The main purpose of the strip is to reduce wind noise. So it could certainly be your problem.
Thanks, I think that makes sense. I'll see if I can get dealer to replace, and will let you know if it makes a difference!

Just in case anyone else was following this thread : I took the car to the dealer to have them look at the wind noise from the sunroof. They saw the gap, assumed it was the problem, but then backtracked. They said they compared the gap and the wind noise to other XC90s on their lot and it "was the same as the others". So basically they told me it was not a problem, even though it IS A PROBLEM. The sunroof is noisier than my 2007 V50 sunroof. I guess I'll try again in a few months. BTW this is Ken Garff Volvo in Salt Lake City, and they also kept doing this with my shocks on my V50, saying they were fine, even though the door won't hold open in cold weather and slams shut whenever it closes :(.
