I am new to the forum.
I have a MY17 T8 on order - supposed to arrive early March.

Can we put together a summary thread of major issues people have been having and sticky it so us newbies have some help when we receive our XC90?

Thanks!

A couple things I have read here:

Suspension recall
Battery drain
Leaking roof
Sensus reboots

Thanks in advance!

My take on such list is that it is useful to look at when you hit an issue but the long list also scares people away. Double sided effect.

Guess "question and answer" mode is still better in this sense. For any issue you can ask and I bet someone will be able to chime in. A long list of all issues having been seen on all cars would be quite daunting and doesn't apply to one single car.

There are people that have issues then there are those that don't. You will get a fairly subjective list of issues using a polling strategy like this. Some people have actual issues, others have flukey things that happen and resolve themselves. You may never see any of the issues you are putting on your short list. Its great to keep these things in mind but just because 5, 10, 15 people are having this issue on the board, doesn't mean the majority of XC90 owners are having these issues.

Some people consider the functionality of PAII a "major issue" where the system functions very well within the constraints it was programmed.

Just my 2 cents.

True. I would be interested in a knowledge base type feature designed for owners for helping them find whether it's something they can address (how-tos and such) or need to see a dealer about. Unfortunately, I haven't found Volvo's support site to be specific enough for my needs of looking up a specific error message or experience/event (e.g. thunking from suspension).

One note, the only time I have had the sensus reboot was with Apple play connected. I prefer to use the Apple play for music.

And, start/stop, may just not have a big enough battery in the XC-90 to work all the time, as Sensus is basically a unix PC and it probably takes some power. I am currently driving a loaner XC-60, 2017, and it's start stop works every time, but it doesn't have sensus as the 2018's will.

Why sticky it? All those things should be fixed in the 2017. Even the battery drain should be fixed! (A new bug introduced during all the software upgrades)

I can understand why you'd ask for this, but keep in mind that if it's a recall it will be addressed either at the factory before your car is made or at the dealer before it is delivered. So it could be confusing for those with new cars to think they have issues that have already been resolved.

Lists like this are better saved for a few years from now once we start uncovering real problems instead of temporary bugs that are fixed at dealerships easily. None of those problems have affected me, except for the annoying "Child lock engaged" message that will not go away when it's on.

Pushing the center button of the d-pad on the steering wheel dismisses driver alerts in the driver display. Does that not work for you?

Reading through this forum I feel like people on this forum often seem to know more than the Volvo techs at the dealership! Example would be the poster who's heater died. The posters on this forum knew what to look for after the techs put them through weeks of wasted time. Thought it would be good to have a summary of these things so if they go wrong it would be easier to identify.

My 2 cents

I agree with you. Your example is one that helped me personally as I was able to instruct the advisor to have their tech check that part and lo and behold that was the problem. So my vehicle only had to spend one day being inspected and tested and another getting fixed when the part came in, instead of several days or even weeks getting diagnosed as someone else experienced.

Dealership techs are hit or miss so forums are a great resource.

With any problem, I just search for threads specific to that problem. A thread with all potential problems listed as OP suggested becomes overwhelming with nobody reading through it. I'd rather read separate threads with 20 replies in it as opposed to a large one with hundreds with replies to different problems on each page. That sounds messy.

No, it does not. If i turn off the child locks, a message stating it's disabled stays on. It's been like that since the first time I turned the child lock on.
When is the last time you had a software update? I use the child lock occasionally and since I learned that I could dismiss the message it has worked every time. I got my vehicle in late October 2016. If you've had yours longer and haven't been updated, maybe there's a bug that a newer version fixes? When you get the low fuel warning which appears in the same way as the child lock message, are you unable to dismiss that message as well?

Add the "squealing brakes" to that list of problems. Apparently there is no 'fix' yet, just replace parts with new ones and hope for the best. To me it sounds like either a design issue (ie. the brake shims should prevent the squeal) or improper rotor/pad material specified by Volvo.

Suspension recall
Battery drain
Leaking roof
Sensus reboots
My MY17 T8 arrived early November, and was built in August after the issues with the first three had been addressed. The dealer updated all software and checked that the above issues had been addressed before delivery. Going through problems that happened with last years' cars isn't likely to be necessary.

2017 is the current model and there definitely are issues some people are still experiencing in them. I still have issues in my 2016 that have been around since the model launch over 20 months ago, so not everything gets fixed with the software updates.

To the OP's original suggestion, there have been numerous topics that start lists like that and are maintained for a while, but the mods have never made them sticky so eventually they get lost on the back pages. As you can see, opinion is divided on the benefit of such a list.
