Anyone have the factory sub installed?
The stock system is great, but I find when I really want to crank it, I have to turn the bass waaaaay down in order to get a balanced sound. I listen to a lot of "synthetic beatz", so I'd rather have a sub to take care of the low end. heh
As an option, I know you need the 4 disc HU (800 series?) in order to get the factory unit, but I've got the HU613. Is there a way to make this work?
Anyone have pics of the factory sub or an aftermarket solution?
THX!

Coastal,
Are you talking about a subwoofer, or the additional 200 watt factory amp? I purchased the latter and it was well worth it.

Specifically I'm referring to the Sub option, though you would need an amp to power it. In the factory set up, ya have to get the Dolby option which has the amp, then you can get the subwoofer over top of that.

Coastal,
I have the HU-803 w/4disc, dolby surround, and the factory sub. I didn't want the sub to begin with, but the dealer said that was the only car/config/color that was on its way. I didn't want to wait for a custom order, so I negotiated the cost of the sub (because I was dealing with the General Manager over the phone, but that's another story) and haven't regretted it once.
The pics aren't much to look at, so I'll email them to you. If others really want to see, I'll post/link them here.
The sub has an adjustable boost level (not sure if its more than just volume) that you adjust from the rear compartment. Not the most convenient, but I think you'll find one setting's fine for your electronica/house/whatever.

A couple more things to mention...
The subwolfer has an integrated 150 Watt amp which is seperate from my 200 Watt factory amp for the HU803. The radio's amp is mounted under the front passenger seat and can be easily accessed (for people with small hands) once you slide the front seat all the way forward.

What did the sub cost? I went the aftermarket wroute last summer. I couldn't help my self. I like lots of bass though. What size is the sub? Just curious to compair. Thx. I got a MTX setup with one 12 (i like my trunk) and a 750 (4ohms) amp. Thanks,

Wow, a twelver.. nice!
The only drawback I can see here is that the sub is probably not in an airtight enclosure, and if it is, the air volume's probably not great enough to properly support a 12".
Either way though, I sure hope my system can accomodate it!
On May 5, my dealer is having a big sale on all accessories (and they WILL be writing rain checks), so I will have to look into it soon!
Thanks for the info!

Thats cool its a 12. I'm wondering if a bazooka tube would be more affective for the price? It might be something to look into if your looking at the upgrade.

I think the best part about the factory unit is that it doesn't take up cargo space.
Bazooka's are a fair alternative considering their compactness and portablility, but I'm not entirely sold on their sound. Certainly better than bolting a 100 lb medite box into the back though!

I'm afraid I have to confess, I have a trunk thumper. Its great though. I enjoy it. Its nice to be able to hear good bass on the way to work (REALLY FUN road) with all the windows down in the summer. The only problem is that i'm gonna have to figure out some way to reinforce the spare tire tray. It is the only thing that somewhat vibrates. Any suggestions? I hate vibrations and rattles... it makes the car sound ***** . Thankfully, my car doesn't, just one slight one.
Thanks,
