I know with the XC90 V8 R Design with 3rd row seating there is no spare tire. I believe it is because of the dual exhaust. I need to use the jack to install the rear mud flaps. Where the hell is it? I can't find it anywhere and it is not located in either location shown in the owners manual for the 5 seater or 7 seater. Is it possible that since I got no spare tire they did not give me a jack? Is it located in another area? The only tools I got is the tire iron and some kind of tire inflation kit. Under the vehicle there is enough room for the spare tire, but the exhaust splits and prevents any use of the space.

Re: Stupid Question (dave_n_ruth)

Interesting question, I am interested in the answer myself. I know eliminating the spare is part of the Heico dual exhause kit.

Probably no jack, why would there be one if there was no tire. The jack sits on top of the tire with the
tool kit. Is there a tool kit? May be with it..

I still need a jack. I don't believe I should need to take the jack out of my R for pulling a tire. Or pulling my jack kit out of the closet. Why bother putting a lug wrench in the car if I have no ability to remove the tire?

You are the one that chose an option that didnt come with a jack.

Re: Stupid Question (dave_n_ruth)

All Volvos have a jack, even those with no spare. Just checked a 2009 XC90 V8 R-design 7 seater. Jack is located under rear floor, secured between the two third row seats under the center console. Held in place by a thick rubber band with metal hooks.
If you have an R-design with out a jack, please post the vin and I will investigate.

I don't get why the R-Design doesn't have a spare I guess.

Re: (Husker Z)

R-design is actually built by Volvo Special Vehicles right next to the factory in Torslanda. Because the first R-Design XC90 was a V8 with dual exhaust, a spare was not possible due to the new exhaust system. When the 3.2 was introduced, initial cars were build the same as the V8 R-designs, i.e., no spare and the special inflator system. Subsequently logic has prevailed and spares were introduced on R-design 3.2s built after Week 46 (mid November 2008).
