Apologies if this has been up before . . . I spent some time using the search feature to no avail.
So yesterday, I came to a head stop and my Double Big Gulp tipped over in the cupholder, unleashing a tsunami of Diet Coke onto the geartronic shifter. Ever since, I've been unable to shift the car out of park without using my key in the shiftlock release tab. The GT shifts normally otherwise, it's just getting out of park that's an issue. Any thoughts on whether it's a blown fuse, or do y'all think I shorted something out, making this more dealer-visit worthy?

Re: Stuck geartronic (hats4bats)

If your car is under warranty hell yeah take it in and have them dick with it. If not ill have to check the wiring diagram. Its possible that you may have shorted something out. Im not sure on the S40's how the gear release circuit works exactly.
Next time stick with a medium

There are electronics that keeps the shifter in Park. With my hand on the shifter, I feel it clicking on and off when I have the car in P and step on and off the brakes. I'm guessing this locking device is damaged or shorted. You'll probably need it replaced. Or you could right and it might just be a fuse. Start checking all the fuses under glove box.

Re: Stuck geartronic (volvoNB)

Thanks for the thoughts, all . . . lesson learned re: diet coke Double Big Gulps . . .
Get this: it must've dried out (after 36 hours) because I can now shift out of park w/o using the manual shiftlock release (this new development happened after I left the car in the baking sun for an AM). The orange indicator lights are still on for all of the "P", "R", "N" "D", etc, though, so clearly something is messed up in there . . . but at least it's working . . .
I guess the good news is that it wasn't real coke; that high fructose corn syrup would've made a sticky mess . . . if it did work, it would've been like shifting through molasses!
