I'm about to replace the struts and this is my first time doing this type of work. I've seen a lot of info, and read almost everything in the archives, so I'm not worried if I can handle it, but there is one thing I'm not sure of.

Is there a certain length I need to compress the springs down to, or do I just make sure the nut is threaded all the way down on the strut? If It needs to be a certain length, do I measure it from tip to tip of the spring?

Thanks for the help guys!

When you disassemble, you only compress the spring so that it isn't putting any load on the nut, or it'll shoot the nut at you like a bullet, followed by the spring itself.

When re-assembling, compress it far enough to get the nut on. If it's compressed just enough to get the nut started, it's okay to run the nut down against the spring force. It doesn't have to be loose or anything.
