What are your feelings on the IPD strut brace compared to the OMP strut brace? The IPD has a nicer finish and is lighter, but costs $180. Meanwhile the OMP brace seems like its heavier, more rugged design may be stiffer, plus it costs only $130. Unfornutely, I don't really like the yellow OMP finish so I was gonna repaint it silver to match my car. I'm debating over which I should buy because even though the OMP is about $50 cheaper, I still have to spend the time and money to paint it. I have a friend who is into VW's and said that VW makes little cans of factory color spray paints and clear coat, do you know if Volvo make these too? If so, any idea on price for them? Has anyone tested both the OMP and IPD strut braces on their car? Any suggestions? Sorry about all of the questions, thanks a lot!

Re: Strut Braces: IPD vs. OMP (phewfiger)

C'mon, grab a can of paint stripper and have a little DIY project. It's not that hard. Get another can of high temp spray paint and some clear coat one, you will be just fine. I didn't like the yellow either. One of these days, when I get really motivate, I'll take down the OMP with all the paint chip on the silver finish and strip it down again to bare metal and high polish the bar myself with some sand paper, then send out the strut tower ends to get powder coated. Should all be very straight forward.
I've tried both IPD and OMP one...honestly, didn't feel anything from the IPD one..or I was just too picky. But with the OMP, steering seems to be a bit more accurate....or just a mental thing since it only has one flex joint.

If you want to get matching spray paint: http://www.paintscratch.com
I have used them for Imola Yellow (Audi color); a metallic silver (Subaru color), and a metallic green (VW color) and all three colors were a darn near exact match with clear coat applied. I am very happy with the product & service from them.

Hey,
How about the OEM strut brace from Volvo? It comes in a nice satin silver and is a snap to install. Volvo Part Number 9204247, it's part of the "Road-holding kit" or somesuch. I got mine for under $200 at a local independent shop, Precision Motors, Rowley, Mass. 978-948-7778 ask for Tim.
I like to go OEM when possible, parts designed by the same engineers who designed the cars are often better than "other" guys...
Best,
Adam
'96 855R Flam-Rod, Bilstein, H&R, Brembo, Supersprint, Yokohama, K&N, Dawes Devices
