That's normal. It's on rubber bushings.

If you think the bushings are worn out, get new ones.

Yes, that is normal but lets not forget, it's not really a strut bar. The bar, (to quote ViVA) is "an overly complicated engine mount system" that's all.

You want it to be this floaty. I did the conversion to make that into a true strut bar, and the vibration was intolerable when combined with the poly upper engine mount. I returned it to the floaty state when I put the poly lower tranny mount, and it's much more comfortable now.

i highly recommend the poly upper engine mount and the UR strut tower brace. i think the car should have come stock with these two components, especially the former. it's amazed me how volvo had done nothing to stabilize those spaces (where the mounts fit in), especially in the R. i have the lower tranny mount installed as well. vibration has increased a bit, but the handling is now German.

The wiggling is there to comfort the natural nature a 5cyl wants to push upwards. The ones that stiffened the OEM-brace mention the engine-vibration afterwards.
Remove the brace and drive around .... then you'll notice what it did to give steering-feedback.
