My car feels strange, the front is very bouncy and the steering feels vauge. Also, my wheel is not on center when I am driving on a level road going straight ahead. I have not hit anyting, there is no wheel or tire damage and I don't remember hitting anyting.
There is also a hissing noise in the steering colum that I can hear when turning left and the inside of the car is quiet.
Any ideas whats going on?

Re: Strange feeling in the front end (TurboACE)

I'm guessing that something in the front end has let go - but do not despair, it can be fixed. Most likely a bushing, bearing or link that needs to be replaced along with a quick alignment. As for the steering, it may be related or may be a separate issue. Our 04s had power steering issues that were all covered under warranty - most likely the well known reservoir fix.
Good luck

My experience has always been that a strange feeling in the front end is better than a strange feeling in the back end.

Re: Strange feeling in the front end (TurboACE)

My car is finally in for service for this issue. They can not find anything wrong. All they did was center the steering wheel. I have not piced it up yet, but they are claiming everything else is normal. I also complained about the steering making a hissing noise when I turn left, they can not hear that. Also, being able to hear more turbo whine than normal at speed, which they can not hear either. I am getting really frustrated with the lack of concern of the dealer's service department. Anyone have any advice on the problems or what to do?

If/when they find something wrong that they can replicate & fix, perhaps a copmplaint to FCNA.

Have YOU demonstrated this to the technician? Lack of concern...Was your car in the dealership for just one day and they could not duplicate the problem? Your steering wheel will not come off center by itself, but don't worry, if it is under 12,000 miles it is covered under your warranty. Instead of getting frustrated make another appointment so you can demonstarte the problem to a technician.

We have better things to do than bring our car in for random noises. Stop telling me it's normal and start trying to find out what it is.

Re: Strange feeling in the front end (needsdecaf)

Ok, I think I know what this is... (a couple things)
The first things I'm going to suggest is the steering rack needs to be looked at. These were "supposed" to be fixed by a factory TSB in which the rack was changed out with a "fixed" version, this was for 04's as I RECALL, but anyways, that SOUNDS very "rackish."
As for sloppiness...
You can find out out if it's what I think by either (or both) kicking the tires up front from front to back or by going down a good regular old bumpy road at about 80 mph and see if the back end doesn't try hoping out on you.
What you have I'll bet is the Control Arm bushings are worn out.
Now here's the prblem with that. Often the bushings will be bad but if their not CRACKED, the dealer will often not want to warranty them so I'm going to tell you that you MAY need to see more than one dealer on this.. on both matters.
I recently went to two different dealers to get the two exact same problems I had with mine. (Ahh, the joys of owning a Euro auto!! )
The guy's of course get upset (like their feelings really get hurt) when you point something out to them. They brought me back to the tech and car in the garage and said there was nothing wrong with the wheels when I told them you could visibly see the the right front tire jiggled like a bowl of jell-o comapred with the front left. The tech starts kicking the snot out of the tire from the side saying it's fine and I said, ok now do it from the front and VOILA!! instant JELLO-O!! He says, I would have never thought to kick it that way. Frightening, considering I said the problem of mushy front got worse when hitting bumps STRAIGHT ON!!
So we get the car up in the air and he checks the bushings and as it turned out, the right was mush and the left was on it's way to it.
If this is the case, be sure they change both sides at the same time otherwise the old side will have you back in short order doing it again.
Also, the alignment should be part of the work under warranty.
Don't let them snowball you. If they do try, then just tell them you would like to confer with Volvo before having it done.
If you want to stroke them, agree to some service that you will pay for like oil change, whatever to make them feel their sticking it to you in some way.
(That makes em happy)
Also, I suggest in the future you do not go into a dealers and say, it's making this whirring, chirping, sqeaking, ...farting noise but instead say, "I need someone" (mgr preferably) "to go out with me and EXPERIENCE this SYMPTOM for themselves please."
Then I'd add, I don't want to be called on this until the car is fixed.
(Your choice, ...situations allowing)
