Hey guys, I have some questions for those of you running straight pipe exhaust systems.
I currently have an EST 3" d/p and 2.5" cat back with the supplied interchangable "race cat". I also have an Upsolute chip running at around 15PSI. Any idea if I'll run into problems if I swap to a straight pipe (catless)?
Emissions is not a problem for me, it will be slightly louder I assume? How loud is it? Also, will this throw a check engine / lamda light? I've heard that with a custom program, they can disable the rear o2 sensor, will this prevent the car from going into dog leg mode? Any other disavantages in running straight pipe.
Thanks,
Bry

you won't have any problems running into it except the check engine light. if you are good with electronics, you can send a certain voltage (i forget what it is) to the ECU in place of the O2 sensor that fools it into thinking its working fine.
if not, you can buy a "fake" o2 sensor on ebay.

good luck.

Aside from that check engine light, there are no other potential problems? Eg, engine not running properly, overly lean/rich fuel mixtures? Thanks!

I'd get your current issue with CEL fixed first before going for more mods.

The CEL wont cause the car to run differently at WOT, just an annoying "emmissions based" CEL.
I ran my t5r catless (well... it was like that when I bought it) for quite a while before I had to smog it. Was fine.
edit: btw, it will be loud.

I thought whenever the Lamda/check engine cell comes on the car automatically switches to dog leg mode (aka restricted performance). Is this true?
BTW, this isn't really a mod. The exhaust system I bought comes with a seperate mid pipe peice that lets you run between race cat and straight pipe. It's literally just a matter of unbolting the middle peice and swapping the hollow pipe in.
Thanks,
Bry

Did you find a way to disable the CEL (fake O2, ECU, etc) or are you still running the car with the CEL? I was going to doubt you at first, but then took a look at what you've been doing to your car. I guess I'll take your word for it. lol I was going to use a GT28RS, but then got lazy. It's difficult to find any shops here to do tuning, so I'm going the 18T route. How the heck do you put all that power you're making to the ground?
Thanks,
Bry

I dont, it boils the tires till about 75mph. Its getting annoying now (was cool at first but.. ya).
I just dealt with the CEL before, now I run an ECU that has the rear 02 sensor removed from the software.
As far as tuning goes I do sell Civinco... for more info: http://www.rkautotechnik.com

Not running straight pipe right now. But I'm running the stock EST d/p and exhaust system with no cats, just swapped it out today. Wow, the turbo spools so much faster. I smoke my tires through the whole of first gear. It's most noticeable on the highway, it screams, the power sounds a lot more raw, I love it. Anyways, I'm keeping this setup, going to swap back to the race cat for emissions.
BTW, after 100km's, no check engine lights... YET.
Bry
