Hi, i have just been reading through old threads just to get some more knowledge about these cars and I have been reading a few posts where the 01 auto trannys are suppose to be not that great. It seeems like people are saying removing a stop neutral feature will help. My question is, can someone tell me exactly what this is and how to remove it and what i will gain by removing it? thanks a bunch

when you pull to a stop the car shifts into neutral - it then shifts back into gear when you press the gas<p>if you feel it doing that or feel a slight delay when initially accelerate you have it.<p>you have to have the dealer remove it<p>you gain your transmission not dying an early death by getting it removed.

Re: (robreed55)

I do feel it doing that, i guess i will have to bring it to the dealer and have them remove it. Do you know about how much that would cost, and can any shop do it or just a volvo dealership?<p>thanks again. and from what i have heard its only in the 01s

Re: Stop neutral feature in the 01 auto tranny? (swedeman)

The stop neutral feature was on all 2001 models and on 2002 all non-turbo models. The function of this is where: when you come to a stop the transmission is shifting into neutral and when you begin to accelerate from the stop there is a delay becuase the transmission is shifting back into drive. The dealer can remove this function by performing a transmision control module software update. Cost on an average is $88.00 parts and labor.

Re: Stop neutral feature in the 01 auto tranny? (stiman23)

Ok, so i just called my vovlo dealer thats fairly close me and i asked him if he knew anything about a stop neutral feature and he told me he didnt know anything about that but, he said there was a TCM and a ECU(i think thats what he said) upgrades available for my car. He said it was like $209 for parts and labor which is a little higher than i thought but he said it would greatly help with the poop points and the responsivness of the transmission. Is this what i need done to my car? and is there a way to tell if its been done already. I dont think it has but if i am spending $200 i wana make sure.

Well the (TCM) transmission control module software update will remove the neutral feature that you were inquiring about. The (ECU) engine control unit software update will not change that function it is a seperate update. The dealer should know about this feature most dealers get a lot of concern about this. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/confused.gif" BORDER="0"> You can inquire about the cost of just the TCM update, but it is always good to have updated software for all modules.
