Stock wiper blade connection

2034 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  S60R1
I've read all the wiper blade replacements that everyone has used or recommended, but I have yet to see a connection(blade to the arm) like the one on my R. Does anyone by chance have a picture of what blade connection the R comes with from the dealer. I know there are many different connections but I can't find any close to mine. On mine you have to pinch two little wing shaped tabs and when it comes off I see no way to attach another connection to it. It's doesn't have the normal U-shape bend in the arm like most wiper arms do.

Are you sure? My R has the J hook arm, which sounds like the "U" shape you describe.

My friend's XC90 has a weird connection, two side tabs and the whole wiper slides out with the plastic clip. It's called an I&L pinch tab, or something like it.

You can see it here, and use the website to find yours:

Actually, yeah, the rain x website shows 05+ S60 having the I&L type. These are a pain, as me and my XC90 friend found out, not typically carried in stores. Order online http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

It's called a Top-Lock II fitting.

Tire Rack sells replacement blades that are a direct OE replacement, made by Valeo. Other brands that offer flat blades should have an adapter to fit a Top-Lock II arm (even the [email protected] Anco blades we hawk out the service department have a proper adapter).

'05 and up use different arms and blade attachment style.

I saw those Rain-x latitude ones at pep boys, but did not see an attachment that would connect to the I & L clip. Are these special order ones?

We tried to find the same ones at Auto Zone and they only carried the J hook type, probably the same with you and Pep Boys. The ones with the I&L clip - my friend just ordered them online, either direct from Rain X or through amazon or something. Shop around for best price http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

They're good blades btw - I have a pair on the car now.

S60R1,

Would you happen to know what size blades right off hand as i'm on the website and it's raining out so I don't want to go out and measure?
Thanks guys I appreciate the help on this. It seemed like I was on an endless search and would eventually have to go to the dealer.
Re: (hoagrod)

I have an 06, so i have that top lock II....

i just replaced mine last night... (see my weekend shopping post)

i bought mine as a set from that online place i list (bosch).. $40 not bad..

they didn't have sizes of the wipers on the box, but it came with both driver and passenger and they both fit and wipe fine...

But i agree with you i got tired of looking in autoparts stores.. they don't carry many of these new style flex wipers to begin with, but then the ones they do carry, they don't compensate for the top lock II attachment..

I actually found and bought the michelin brand wiper from an auto store with the top lock II... I didn't like it because the attachment was kinda bulky.. i was annoyed by seeing that bulky attachment in my line of sight every time i drove...

from what i seen when i was looking.. all brands recommend 24" for drivers side but i noticed both 22" and 21" for passenger side

24-2 & 22-2 ?

Correct!

Driver's side - 24"
Passenger side - 22"

The "-2" on the part number, i.e. "24-2", stands for "version 2", which is basically the I&L pinch tab version. Version 1 is the standard J hook type. This is for Rain X latitude blades only, other OEMs will have their own part numbering schemes.

The Rain X Latitude blades are good - I have them and recommend them. They are all season and have no exposed springs and joints to freeze and the blade material provides a good wipe, rain or snow/ice.

Whichever blades you choose, just make sure you get the I&L pinch tab version and you'll be all set http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

And sorry I took so long, I was out on lunch

05 and up the Rain X website lists the 22" for passenger side.

04 it lists the 21". The car didn't get wider, so my guess is the wiper arm length changed, probably due to the new I&L pinch tab type vs the J hook type.

This is funny because I don't remember what size I used on my passenger side, but I do remember that it comes right up to the side pillar on the windshield, so I probably grabbed a 22" by mistake (well, by the Auto Zone guy's mistake lol). Still clears the pillar though, by like 1mm haha.
