The previous owner of my 1800ES bought 17x7 inch wheels with low-profile 245/45 tires. Looks interesting, but rides a bit rough.
So ... should I get Superlites (15x6), or stick with thinner stock wheels?
Opinions welcome ...
And if anyone wants my 17x7s, let me know and I'll send pics. I'm in Dallas.

Stock ES wheels are 15x5.5, so there's not much difference in width or functionality. I think Superlites look great on an ES, but it really comes down to personal preference.

If you have all five stock wheels in good shape that would be a way to minimize the armstrong steering problem - run a 195-70-15 tire with 40psi in the fronts - just like power steering!
You can get TRUE Mini's for a little more than the price of the pretenders.
Since you are looking at both new tires and new wheels consider any new 16" alloy wheel of the correct bolt pattern and circle that fits without spacers and/or centering rings and is within 5mm +/- of the correct offset.
George Dill

I'd like to see them.
my email is jasondubose (at) hotmail (dot) com
I'm in Dallas as well.

I'm thinking about going with American Racing's new version of the torque thrust D. It is called VINTAGE T70R GUN METAL W/ MACH. LIP
they are 17x7 zero offset and 4"backspace. Not sure if they'll fit but look very good.

Hi Ron,
My personal opinion is that the older a car gets the more appropriate it seems to have stock wheels and tyre specs. In Australia we are seeing cars that seemed like common daggy junk 10 years ago have now become quite trendy, particularly in standard original form. Possible alternatives like Volvo sports accessory rims or maybe Minilites seem appropriate period furniture alternatives given you can interchange them easily and not mess too much with the intended look of that beautiful P1800 style.
James.

205's will be too wide, probably. The superlites will look good! Nice choice

I vote for 195/65 if comfort is more important than ultimate cornering force. They are also very close to the original tires in diameter, so your gearing and speedo accuracy won't be affected.

Got the Superlites from VTO in California, and 195/65/15 Michelins.
Like having power steering after taking off those 17 inchers.
Looks great, too. How do I attach a photo to these posts?
Ron
