I was wondering what the diameter of the '96 850R sway bars is. Is it worth it to go with aftermarket bars or are the ones with the R package already larger diameter?

Thanks for any help.

Duncan,

I just checked this out for my '95 854T. Volvo has three front sway bar diameters-19, 20 and 21.5 mm (couldn't find out the thicknesses available the rear one). iPd bars are (were?) 25 mm for the front and 22 mm for the rear, and they also have bushings that fit around the bar but are not vulcanized to the bar as with the Volvo ones. However, Cameron at iPd told me Tuesday that their 850 sway bars were still in R&D and did not think they would be out for 3-6 months. I've got one on back order, so I guess I will just wait for them to fix their design-if it results in a better and more reliabile sway bar, I am willing to wait. Hope this helps.

Hi there, What was wrong w/IPD's swaybars that they've been R&D'ing them for so long? I'm also waiting for them to release the new bars, but 3-6months will have them ready at about the beginning of summer, which works for me.

thx,

The reason that IPD is taking so much time on the sway bars because they are using a different method to test the product before they release it to all of us loyal consumers.

The price will stay about the same, but the handling will be even better than before. I know that i'm in line for mine!!! Good thing when they're released i'll be in portland to pick them up *no shipping boooyaaaaaa*

It has the same construction as mine, the one from Volvo. For the left hand drive cars the bar does not have that bend for the brake resevoir. It come apart with two bolts for work. Man does that brake booster look out of place or what!

Hey Guys...
Just getting started posting on this board.
I have a set of the iPd 850 bars, and I snapped my rear bar about a week ago. The 2-bolt mount on the passenger side of the bar just totally sheered, and has become completely detached from the actual bar. I assume this happens a lot, because I was able to get a replacement until the new redesigned bar is released by iPd.
Anyone else out there break their rear bar.
