Hi there,
So I too had that part replaced that's supposed to take care of the steering groan and it did for about two weeks but then it came back. It's still cold here in Maine at night so in the mornings the steering complains.
I'm betting on the collar being dirty and I will clean it and re-greace it when I go home in a few weeks but does anyone have any other ideas?
Keep in mind that this part was replaced about 3 months ago.

Does the groaning go away after 5 minutes?

Re: steering groan (Big Will)

Was it installed properly.
Look at the bottom of the steering column and turn the wheel back and forth.
If the collar "moves" at all it's loose and will cause the groan.
If this is the case have it secured properly

Could you elaborate more on what it was you had to change? Mine's starting to groan in tight, slow corners.

Re: steering groan (Big Will)

Might have been installed improperly.
I just put a new steering rack in my 850 and the SOB was groaning away.
EVERYONE thought there was air in the line and said to "drive it for a week". Well, one week later the groans were still there.
Here the guy that put the rack in cracked the grommet so it apparantly it was this part, not the rack or PS pump that was the problem.
The 850 part is naturally different than a S70 part so it has to be overnighted in ($$ ) so I can get the car back tomorrow.
Bottom line of the story is that if they are not installed correctly they can come loose and make noise again

Mine hasn't "groaned" in over 3 months or so since I replaced the collar bushing.

Thanks so much for the replies. I haven't been online much today (on call all day).
I'll look for movement Jim of the collar. And yes the groaning generall goes away after 5 minutes as before although if the car sits in a parking space (like during grocery shopping) it sometimes groans once again for a half a minute getting out of the parking lot.
On another note, sorry to hear about your 850 having a similar issue. Hope it is resolved quickly.

If it's secure, loosen it up and lube

Ok so I checked for movement of the collar. If I'm interpreting this right, the white collar moves when the steering wheel does in harmony. Is that not supposed to happen? It appears to operate smoothly but I do have the groan initially as mentioned above still. When I go home in two weeks I'll do the Bay 13 fix on it since I've already replaced the part as you recommend Jim.
