The steel rims on which my winter tires ride are about 6 years old now, and are starting to show some rust spotting on the inside of the face, and just below the lip (I'm amazed it took this long with Vermont's copious use of salt). I doubt there's any impact on structural integrity at this point, but I suppose that left alone long enough, they'd eventually become a problem.<p>At what point should I think about doing something for them (i.e. sanding and hitting them with some black Rustoleum -- or purpose-made paint)? Is there any reason it wouldn't be prudent or worth it to do this?
