Announcing the first and only 100% bolt-on Stage 3 turbocharger upgrade for the S60R/V70R models! The Stage 3 turbocharger upgade is available exclusively from ViVA Performance.
ViVA Performance is proud to be the first to offer a K24 hybrid turbocharger upgrade for the S60R/V70R engines! In summary, our turbo upgrade has a 35% increase in airflow compared to the stock K24 turbo, significantly improves mid to top end performance, and is a 100% plug and play replacement unit. When used with our exclusive Stage 3 software (requires supporting tuning hardware) this turbo is capable of producing 420 hp and 450 lb/ft of torque at the crank.
How is this possible? We take an original KKK K24 turbocharger fitted on the S60R/V70R. We then perform the following modifications to the turbo:
* Complete, professional rebuild of turbo: This includes inspecting and replacing the seals, bearings and thrust hardware.
* Installation of a larger and more efficient compressor wheel: This requires machining excess material from inside the compressor housing to allow room for the replacement compressor wheel.
* Port/polish of housings: To increase and improve airflow IN and OUT of the turbo, we port/polish the compressor and turbine housings. We also port/polish the wastegate flapper port to minimize boost flutter and spikes.
* Ceramic coating of turbine housing: This helps retain heat within the turbine housing and reduces engine bay temperatures.
* Turbine wheel clipping: The stock K24 turbine wheel blades are clipped to reduce rotational inertia, resulting in increased airflow through the turbine housing.
As a result of our efforts, some key benefits of using our hybrid turbo include the following:
* 100% plug and play design retains all original oil/coolant lines, downpipe and manifold flanges. There is no need to develop or fit custom hardware!
* 35%+ increase of performance without having to increase overall boost pressure.
* Maximum boost is available from 3000RPM through 6800RPM (red line).
* You can send your original K24 turbo in as a core return, helping reduce your overall upgrade expenses.
Please visit our website for additional information:
http://www.vivaperformance.com...d=780

I think I just wet myself!!
So it will not work with the stock tune if were running PPC to go back and forth?? Or can you modify the stock tune to make it work.

So I think my tune decision just got made up, I assuming Viva will be the only one to offer a tune that takes advantage of the new turbo....but.... No tune till, phuz downpipe, custom catback, turbo upgrade, then stage 3 tune,,,,, sound about right??

This older thread on the hybrid turbo may answer some questions and so may George's site.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...age=2
From what I gather is you will need their custom Stage 3 tune and pretty much every other bolt on and mod to gain the 420.
420 huh? Hey George, you just posted this today and you are already Out of Stock for 2006-2007 per Viva's web page.

Here are a couple of more threads where our turbo upgrade is mentioned. There are several people on the forums who have this turbo installed. Tigers1981 has shared his thoughts about experience with this turbo:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=105614
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=113894

Quote, originally posted by TurboR850 »

Nice set-up ! ! !
At what psi does this turbo produce 420 hp ?

Peak boost is at 1.55bar.

Quote, originally posted by bobbrown13 »

I think I just wet myself!!
So it will not work with the stock tune if were running PPC to go back and forth?? Or can you modify the stock tune to make it work.

The turbo will work with the stock tune, but I wouldn't run the stock tune for too long and I'd be careful to run at WOT. While the stock tune will still limit overall boost, it does not have the adaptability to richen the A/F ratio enough to accommodate the extra airflow. You may create a lean enough mixture which may subject your engine to unnecessary stress/heat.
I think the important question is what would be the "safe" power limit for the stock engine. 420, although very appealing, to me seems a little too 'high'.
I agree. This will require strengthening the internals of this engine for any kind of longevity. I'm looking into an M car from bimmer, and when they force fed those they still decided to build up the internals. And no offense to Volvo, but an M motor is a better designed piece of equipment than our 2.5L is.
Edit: And let's not forget the assault that would take place on the already delicate drivetrain components. That being said, it's a sweet piece of work.

There have even been several R owners here on SS with larger aftermarket turbo's with stock internals and no problems after thousands of miles of aggressive driving (blot comes to mind, for example - he regularly tracks his car in rather warm weather too).
We researched and designed our turbocharger upgrade to provide maximum, reliable performance in a safe manner from the B5254T4 (stock internals). Installation is also a breeze as you don't need to custom fabricate any hardware.
However, if you are looking for any more power out of your R, an aftermarket turbo and all custom hardware is your only other option.
