Braking and turning sharply.... could the ABS have been activated? My ABS kicks in all the time when I break hard and turn into a driveway, especially when it's a little wet outside. And for someone who's never experienced the ABS kicking in, it's a harsh sounding event.

This is kind of like when we had the barking dog problem in our cars. But yeah, the spring tensioning sound is pretty close to what I get. Sounds like it's coming from the steering column area. When you get it checked out please post back, as I'm out of waranty, so I'm weary of taking it in.
