Squeaky driver's seat

Hi,
my car is S60 T6 R Design SPA.

I have been having annoying squeaking coming from the seat pan on the driver's seat. The general area the sounds is coming from is the left side close to the plastic control panel. I can invoke the sound by pressing down on the left seat bolster with both hands. First I thought it may be plastic fasteners withing the control cover are interfering. Now, I think is more of a spring kind of sound; I am not sure of the seat construction. The dealership said that they have put some felt tape around but the squeaking continues. The service dept has looked at the issue twice (they say they haven't seen this before). The car is still under warranty. I wondered if anyone have had similar problems and the advice I can get in fixing the issue.

Thank you very much!

I had something kinda similar, my tracks squeaked and had to be tightened, but that area squeaked to and honestly I just moved the seat around in all directions/adjustments a bunch and it eventually stopped.

"If this seat's a-squeakin, don't come a-peakin?"

I wonder if you could work in some leather moisturizer on the seat. Definitely sounds like there is some rubbing between pieces of material. Not particularly sounding like plastic, though totally get why its annoying.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I will try leather conditioner but it is a sound that comes from within and it has a mechanical quality.

Wow, that is pretty loud!

No, never heard that sort of noise before so not common.

I will say that if it can be reproduced that consistantly and easily then a good tech should have little problem finding the source. Obviously the felt tape had little to no effect but the resolve is an unknown at this point.

Yes, the sound can be reproduced. Any horizontal adjustment makes the sound go away temporarily. Last time I drove to the dealership with a squeaky seat. The technician moved the seat immediately and the sound went away. We drove the car briefly but the sound was gone and fixing attempts were hindered. I am going back tomorrow with a squeaky seat and I hope we can locate the source.

When I first got my S60, I moved the seat all of the way down so I was sitting low relative to the car. Recently, I moved the seat up a bit and I'm now noticing some seat squeak that I never had before. Moving the seat just a bit seems to get rid of the squeak until the next time I get into the car and its been sitting in the hot sun after a day at work. I'll have to look into the seat rails and check the mounting bolts.

This sounds a lot like what I am experiencing. Moving the seat slightly, often makes the squeaking go away but it is temporarily. The sound usually returns in the same car trip (from short errands to longer drives). My seat is low and I haven't experimented with vertical adjustments as much as with the horizontal. Thanks for your reply!

On an old Subaru that I had, it was the bolts that hold the seat rails to the car frame that made it squeak as I shifted around in the seat. I used to tighten them from time to time and the squeak would go away for another few weeks or months. While I haven't looked into this with my S60 yet, I'm not sure if it was caused by raising my seat or from the car baking in 95 degree sun while I'm at work. I wouldn't be surprised that a little bit of heat related expansion/contraction was the cause. Or, maybe it's a combo of repositioning the seat during summer that introduced the squeak... Looks like I have a new mini-project ;).
