hey everybody...
so I'm going to buy a sports steering wheel from the classifieds... have a standard plastic steering right now.
first, is it easy to swap the steering wheels? no problems with the airbag? has anyone got a DIY ?
and second... thought of coloring my plastic inserts / those things in the steering wheel where the radio controls / speedo normally are located.
but as I have none of those... these are my ideas (as usual, bad photoshop )
(pic is old, I have replaced the center console with an aluminium one... )

this would be standard...

colored silver to match the aluminium insert

colored passion red to match the car color
so? opinions? help on the swap? anyone?

Re: Sport steering wheel... some questions... (sanatarium)

I'm not quite sure for myself..
think it might look really good - the other possibility is to send it to heico, and get it customized...
like this one:

but we'll see... maybe it matches up really well

Ohhhh yeah!
Your seats are tan right? Kinda hard to tell from the pics.
Also, are you planning to do other accent colors on your console or vents or anything? If youre gonna do the console red or something, those inserts would look cool red, otherwise, stick to the black.

If only that custom interior were a sweet green: I'd be all over that, lol. Sport steering wheel is a nice upgrade, but why the freak do they make it cost so much?!

@sana: this should be pretty close to the real colors (of course, it's depending on your monitor calibration...but what the heck... )

Quote, originally posted by carreragt7 »

If only that custom interior were a sweet green: I'd be all over that, lol. That is sweet!!! But I couldn't do it to my daily driver, a show car color for sure. Dang Heico, making me want to drop thousands on a sweet interior like that, lol. How much are they wanting for that? I think I saw something somewhere that it was $3k+, I'm sure the Heico job is more than that for sure. I'd probably leave the floor black though, green would be a biotch to keep clean.
Edit: Just checked Sana, I think I am good for now. Probably just in shock, give it a few.

I did my steering wheel inserts a long time ago and they still look great. I matched the aluminum of the console to the steering wheel inserts and the shifter.
I like the color matched look if and only if the console and door trim pieces are done the same color.

I have the same color matched theme going on in mine... The steering wheel is easy to do IF YOU'RE WILLING TO TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Just follow the instructions on the installation guide (if it doesn't come with one because you're buying it from the classifieds, post and I'm sure someone on here can help you out) and you'll be in business. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner the minute you start carving the corners with the meatier feel this one gives it. Good luck man...
