Hi all. Already addicted to this site and haven't even picked up my car yet.
I'm picking up my '05 T5 (red) this weekend. Bone stock and it's already killing me that it doesn't have the rear spoiler. I like the stock one best- not a lip spoiler.
I've seen numerous suppliers, even on "the bay", but am concerned about paint match and have to keep cost w/in reason...so my questions are:
1.) I am attracted to the idea (for convenience) of buying one already painted- you supply the make/color code and supposedly it'll be just right.
2.) I can get one primed and take it to a body shop. No doubt this is the best bet, but wondering if it's going to get really costly this way.
I am interested in doing this cost effectively, but also want/need a good match.
Recommendations? Where did you non-spoiler-turned-spoiler folks get yours? Again, I want the stock style.
Huge thanks!!
Eric

Re: Spoiler Q's and advice on a specific concern (EricV)

Buy Revolve40s. It is in the classifieds, I believe it is $90 OBO. It will need to be painted but that shouldn't be a big deal, if you buy a prepainted one it might not match, best to take it to the shop at the same time as your car so they can get as close a match as possible.
Link to classified ad:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=123610

First off, your opinion is wrong, the stock (and any other) spoiler is ugly.
Second, order it primed if you can, but get a shop to paint it. This ensures an exact match. Every color and code has variances. There's no way it can be dead on ordering from some place unless you get really lucky. This accounts for fade as well.
I could be wrong, but you should be able to install this yourself. I remember hearing that the holes for the stock spoiler are marked on the inside of the trunk. Get the right bit, swallow any qualms you have about drilling into your new car, and go to town. (don't yell at me if you screw it up. )
I personally think that there are other, better places to spend money concerning our cars, such as dynamic trim, some suspension modifications, or wheels for starters, but it's your car, and whatever floats your boat. Good luck!

Yeah, as he said, mine is for sale. There is one noticeable scratch that will no doubt be eliminated if you're having it painted to match. If you're interested PM me. Congrats on the car!

Huge thanks all- no one can ever accuse this place of not providing immediate gratification! Talk about fast responses...
Carreragt- thanks for the tip.
Revolve- I may very well take you up on that...at first I was concerned about the scratches, but you're right in that painting/finishing should take care of that.
Mofo- I've no issues tearing into my trunk. I'm a pretty decent DIY'er and in a masochistic way this sounds like fun. I also totally agree that there are better priorities to spend on (did all that w/ my old 5-series and will do it again on the T5) but this lack of a spoiler somehow bugs me disproportionately. Weird, but it is what it is. It's also a modest cost...the biggies will have to wait a bit.
