I procurred a 71" cable and angle drive sometime back off EBAY (separtely). Speedo cable is good and has correct ends. Angle drive is junk. Now I'm wondering if my 71" cable is long enough without an angle drive. OD won't go in until spring and would like to have everything ready to go.

I see where VP has a 77+" speedo cable. Does anyone know if this extra length is for setup without angle drive?

Has anyone installed a speedo cable on J OD without an angle drive? If so, do you recollect what length speedo cable you used?

Thanks.

I used the 79" cable (#668598 for -'63 Amazon speedos) to mate to my J-OD upgrade. Plenty of cable length without the troublesome angle drive...
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the insight. I have a '66, so probably shouldn't buy the - '63 cable. the 64' - is 77" and based on your experience sounds as if that will very likely be enough without angle drive.

Are the speedometer ends different after '63?

Nice looking engine work.

77" will work fine without strangle drive.

Earlier speedo/gauge unit, with the indicator legend etched on little flanges below the lense rather than painted on the lense (paint worn away on the one in the shot below) used a smaller knurled nut on the end of the speedo cable. Tranny/OD end the same...

Thanks for taking the time to clarify and with pictures. Yep, my speedo is the 2nd (lower) one.
