I'm not sure that you'll get better sound with aftermarket speakers, it's set up pretty well as it is, I think. I think if you want to upgrade, you'll have to gut it from the ground up.

Hmm...
You want the whole setup?
I could part with the speakers in my R.
What do you want? the factory amp? Factory 850?
Factory speakers?
Speakers with the housings?
Factory wiring?
Do your research, let me know....since I could pull eveyrthing out before the Davis meet. I haven't really gone crazy on them, since i've always had an external subwoofer in the car, so bass inside the cabin has been at a minimum. Previous owner listened to Garth Brooks.

Re: (chinaonnitrous1)

Nitrous1,
I am just looking for some door speakers, I love the current factory set up in my R so I would be looking for just the stock R door speakers. The R has a factory amp right? So there is no need to change that right???? I am completely new to messing with the stereo in a Volvo so please put up with my stupidity. And yes I would very interested in your factory R speakers.

I looked up the factory door speakers one time and was blown away at the price, it was just insane.

Unless you're getting them second hand, there's no reason to pay so much for the stock replacement speakers. Just find some low profile speakers with low RMS rating.

Re: (s140s)

I changed both front door speakers on my wife's 2.5T. I suspect that both were blown because of the moisture that got inside. Still trying to figure out how to fix it.
I got the speakers from the local electronic store. I think my requirements were 6.5 inch round speakers and 4 Ohms Impedance. The manual says that the speakers vary from 25 to 75 W.
Today you get aftermarket speakers that rated 200 W. I think it is fine to put something like that as long as Impedance does not change. There are a lot of choices that fit this category.
The installation was easy, but required some drilling. I enjoyed the project though.
Have fun

Re: (Denis)

Shouldn't we just be able to spec out the factory premium sound speaker and get a suitable replacement (size, power handling, resistance, etc...)? I'd love to replace all of my speakers. I may be the only person around here that thinks the Volvo premium sound is *ok*, but lacks a resilient punch that a good aftermarket speaker can handle.

Re: (JoeLvo)

I just replaced the premium factory front door speakers in my T5 with Alpine SPS-600's 6.5".
The job was simple and the improvement is amazing! I would use aftermarkets if I were you. Cheaper cost and better sound. I am replacing all my speakers over the summer. May go with infinity for the rear doors.
My install required no drilling. I removed the original speaker from the factory mount. That required cutting the 4 clips off the back and using a flathead to separate the glued on speaker from the mount. Then I just used a screw and a bolt for each mounting tab. Mounted them thru the slots where the factory speaker's clips were. No need to drill that way.

Re: (ViriiGuy)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the door speakers like 8"ers? Did you have to build a mount with a smaller diameter for the 6.5's?

Quote, originally posted by ViriiGuy »

I just replaced the premium factory front door speakers in my T5 with Alpine SPS-600's 6.5".
.
