Having an issue that only seems to arise during the winter (of course, once the roads get slippery).

2006 XC70, around 68k on the clock...yes, the tranny has been flushed already

When accelerating on slippery surface (ice, snow, loose gravel), if the front tires loose traction, I hear an alarmingly loud thud come from under the car as the rear wheels gain traction.

Does anyone have an idea as to what this could be?

Thanks for your help!

Off the top it sounds as if the Haldex is having an issue and not smoothly engaging AWD.
Could be the pressure sensor
You should get this looked at, "thuds" are not what you want to have hitting this drivetrain all the time
