AFAIK all DOT-approved passenger car tires must have treadwear indicators as required by law.

Once you drive them 1 mile, theyre toast!

whatever....and buy what? $280 PS2s? No thanks. The PZero Rossos are aging as a benchmark in performance tires, but they don't deserve the knocks they get here.
Fact is there are VERY few tires out there that have the OEM load rating that the Rossos do, so most of what you get have soft 91Y load ratings which are crap. The Hankooks are the only tire out there that are priced resonably and have the proper load rating.

They sure do.
Volvo picked the worst tire for this car as it DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. The ride is awful, the car tramlines with them, the ride sucks and on and on and so forth.
Try a set of the new Conti Extreme DWS if you can go with a high performance all season, best bank for the buck tire out there! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
Everyone who has installed them seems to love them.
If you want a dry tire, that's all up to you

Despite the flak Goodyear took for the Eagle F1 A/S noise issue (which they fixed), I'd take these over Pirelli any day of the week. If I recall, they even have a 95 load rating. I paid a whopping $160 per tire, not $200+ like some of the Michelin's and other Pirelli's. And yes, those Pirelli's did suck for this car - unless you live in a dry, summer-like climate all year.

The PZeros aren't bad on the R because they're not all-season tires and can't handle cold/snowy weather. Some may disagree with Volvo's decision to equip the R with a non-A/S tire but that's an entirely different issue. Any summer tire (whether a PS2, PZero or other similar tire) is not going to handle well on snow/slush/ice or even on dry roads when the temps drop towards freezing in northern climates.
The PZeros are bad for the R because they degrade its handling when compared with other comparable tires (e.g., other Summer only performance tires) on the same car.

The shop I went to only had Hankook Ventus K103 in my size. At first I was disappointed I chose to put them on, but the price was right, and the ride was much better than the Rossos. They have lasted like 40K+ and I'm looking at Yokohama S-Drive and Hankook Ventus V12 now. Mostly dry road in the Los Angeles area, except for recently, it's been raining buckets and there are waterspout warnings...What tires are good for waterspouts??

You probably think the "ride sucks" because they support the proper load of the car. I'm sure any stiffer 95Y tire would "suck". Probably if you went to an inappropriate soft sided 91Y load rating the ride would be better, but the tires will roll over on themselves if you drive the car in a sporting manner. If I wanted good ride I would slap some H rated 400+ treadwear on my 17s with some super cushy load rating and cruise around like a grandpa.

my wife's R rode horribly with the rossos on it's 17's. above 75 mph the car would shake like you were driving on cobblestones. if it were my car i'd have separate winter and summer tires, since it's not, we got all seasons, bridgestone pole positions, 960's i believe w/ the XL load rating and that cured all the ride problems caused by the rossos. we had the rossos balanced and wheels rotated, aligned, etc., so i would have to say, as a good many others have on here that it's the rossos. but if they're fine on your car, then you're lucky i guess

I'm glad you don't have a problem with them on your R. I don't know what kinds of roads you're accustomed to driving on or what your driving style is like but if you enjoy a spirited drive on curvy roads in CT, you don't want to be in an R equipped with PZeros.

sure they gripped, but if they grip and make your car violently shake at 80 mph, then they're doing their job very poorly. maybe earlier R's such as my 04 had a bad batch of rossos or maybe mine were defective - whatever the case, mine sucked and the bridgestones grip just as well if not better than the rossos we had. maybe it's because we had 17" and possibly 18's are fine, but it's more than a little coincidence that a lot of people on here have had similar problems with the rossos

oh i know, i was just curious if there was any correlation to tire size or model year or what, but either way, it definitely caused me to steer clear of them on any of my cars - why risk it. if i were to get summer tires for the R, i'd probably stick with the kumhos like i have on my audi - great tires for the price

Its the same with many manufacturers.
I had Bridgestone Re-92's on my 2002 Nissan Maxima 3.5L 6spd with the HLSD option.
The tires had little grip, prone to tram on the freeway, and they were loud.
The same tires are still used on a Toyota Yaris.
I mean come on.
Theres a big difference in vehicle performance there.
