Black headlights are very popular over here. Someone with Sapphire Black should do the Euro Spec in black. <p><IMG SRC="http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/2719/1005203small8wu.jpg" BORDER="0"><p>Non-xenon, but you get the idea of the color.<p><IMG SRC="http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9783/1005095small7ss.jpg" BORDER="0"><br><IMG SRC="http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/305/1005146small2nv.jpg" BORDER="0">

I have been thinking about it with the V70R.<br>Even found a person willing to trade black for silver but didn't do it eventually.<p>This is what my S60T5 looked like, non xenon btw,<p> <IMG SRC="http://home.planet.nl/~dijkstra/s60r19t.jpg" BORDER="0"> <p> <IMG SRC="http://home.planet.nl/~dijkstra/images/s60/low.jpg" BORDER="0"> <p>iPD changed the headlights on their V70R project car also,<p> <IMG SRC="http://www.swededemon.com/images/ipd-tme/stage3-2.jpg" BORDER="0">

Re: Someone should do Black Euro Xenons ("R" Kelly)

I saw an XC-70 today that had these, I assume they all do. I can't say I find it attractive, and I wouldn't want to do anything to make my car look more like an XC-70- yech!

Re: Someone should do Black Euro Xenons ("R" Kelly)

I have a black saphire '05 R. Is it possible to pull the lens aprart from the housing and paint the surrounding with a rattle-can? Are they difficult to seperate? Otherwise, how much are the lights and where can I by them?

Re: Someone should do Black Euro Xenons (BOOSTED S60R)

BOOSTED S60R,<p>The post immediately before yours asked about removing the lens and painting the surround. I noticed the US-spec daytime running lights and what appears to be slight indentations where the amber reflectors would be located. Did you somehow manage to pull the lens and paint, or did you swap for entirely new black headlight assemblies? <p>I think the silver surround looks just right on Titanium cars, but I'd love to lose the ambers without the expense of going with the full Euro H/L unit replacement. If you did pull the lens, can you shed some light on how you did it (sorry for the bad pun) and how you re-sealed the unit?<p>- Tryg<p>BTW - Great looking car! <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/cool.gif" BORDER="0">

Re: Someone should do Black Euro Xenons (RainyS60R)

JimLill had a post where he described how to pull headlights apart. Think it involved removing bumper and a heat gun.

Mine are the stock ones that were taken apart and repainted then resealed. The guy that does all my work on my car did mine for me. I have no clue how he did it lol.

It's just the thought of the cost if I screw something up that scares me. Typically for a mod like this I would buy an extra set of housings, mod them, then replace but keep the original units. With the cost of these things though at 1100 + a pop, modding the existing units is the only way for me to go.<p>"R" Kelly, your title intrigued me. It is funny to me sometimes what is popular here vs. there. While we were all buying clear "Euro" lenses for our Benzes, the folks over in Germany were buying up the "American amber" ones as fast as they could make them. It was a while before the forum I was on had ppl just start exchanging them with each other instead <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> .<p>JimLill, I know I have read that info before on this forum in the past, but your link doesn't work for me <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/confused.gif" BORDER="0"> .

Looking around today, I noticed several American cars with this sort of light treatment- the Dodge Magnum and Chevy Impala come to mind. I respect peoples desire to mod their cars and make them unique, but I had to speak up on this one as I think R owners are running out of ways to to do this. When guys are spending money and time to make their cars look more like Chevys and Dodges, perhaps the R has run its course (are you listening Volvo?). Please, I'm begging you guys not to start a trend with this. There's just too much ugliness on the roads today as it is.

Re: Someone should do Black Euro Xenons ("R" Kelly)

With Jim Lill's server down, would anyone be able to post closeup pictures of a stock silver surround after removing the amber diffuser? This little amber piece appears to be held in place with three very small plastic tabs, one at the top and two along the bottom. Is there any glue that would mar the surface underneath once it's exposed? <p>It looks good in black, but I am wondering if it will look a little naked in stock silver...<p>- Tryg

Jim suggested painting amber silver to match headlights, and then cutting notch out. <p>Someone was looking into getting clear lens to replace amber (best idea IMO), but don't think anything ever came of that.
