so i started installing my K&N typhoon last night. So why is everyone so concerned about the ecu overheating. It seems like on the stock box it is just attached to the side in it own little space out of the air that is coming into the intake. with a a cover over it.

Hey KP, The fins on the back side of the ECM sits on the inside of the airbox. Once you take the ECM out of the airbox you'll see what i'm talking about. Good luck on the rest of the install.

You should not get any problems with over heating here in The PNW.

Yeah what do it get like highs of 80's in the summer time... oh and with chance of showers lol. I think people worry bout the ECU cooling more than necessary. Unless you live in a very hot climate i wouldnt be too concerned.

Seriously. I took one look at the instructions and just had my indie guy do it for me for like $40 extra when he was doing my PCV repair when I first got my car. No cuts, and my wallet wasn't even hurting that bad at the time.

I bought a dremel for $40 and had the "fun" of cutting that airbox out.

Skwirl, you wouldn't happen to have any parts of your stock airbox left over in your S40 junkpile, would you? I'm interested in getting the part that forces the air into the box...I gave mine away before realizing I could use it for my own custom CAI.

Fabricator wants to drop an intake right down behind the left head light and fab a bracket to hold the ecu. Thats the custom intake your thinkin about

Yeah, basically. I was probably going to get an otto ecu holder from euro3b or just have my bro make me one (he is an engineer with access to CNCs and other cool stuff). Too bad he is SUPER busy.

Re: (carreragt7)

stop the hate. i was up till like 2 last night.Thats what i get for starting extra late. but yeah the box was really stuck in there. plus it seems like someone had done something with the air box before like half the bolt were missing. everything is in but on bracket that holds tube down. i was just too dazed to figure it out, so borrowed the bimmer to go to school today.

I kept bits and pieces for a few months just to show local peeps how the airbox looked, then my friend took it to an outdoor shooting range.

Re: (carreragt7)

so i installed the k&n and can't see how people don't feel that big of a difference. I think it's a noticeable difference. maybe cause i already have a tune and exhaust but i defiantly recommend it.
