Okay, I have a family member in the market for an S80. He really likes the dark forest green that came on earlier S80s. Was that color '99 only, and if not, how long did it last. I think he'll be shooting for an '00 S80 2.9.
If he goes for a '99, which were the vins I should stay away from (Yannis?).

We got the dark blue metallic, instead.

quote:
Hmmm, so that dark green is '99 only?

Yes.
As far as VINs to stay away from, I would definitely stay away from anything that is less than 028000 and also have a full check up (from a Retailer's computer) about the warranty repair history on any '99 S80 that its last six of the VIN are less than 042000.
Yannis

Re: Some S80 Questions (GrecianVolvo)

That's a shame that it was only in '99. It's a great color. I think we're going to go '00 though.
Too bad also because I checked the listing for Manheim last night. There were over 90 S80s going across the block and one of them, a '99 in my color combo and wiht only 35K went across the block. Alas, I didn't have the time to go up there today and look it over, and I'd rather do so for this family member.

Re: Some S80 Questions ([email protected])

My dad's always been a Buick man, ever since he bought his first (a '59 Electra convertible). But, Buick's products nowadays are drab, boring and without a stationwagon ( darn he liked those ). For now, he's driving my Golf ( VWvortex's project Golf 1.8T ). He said if he were 20 years younger, he might buy a GTI 1.8T and chip it. He also likes it when he's filling up the gas and he gets approached by some kids who dig the Vortex (spotted the decals and recognized the car). Well, that's my (actually my car's and my dad's) 15 minutes of fame.
Seriously though, he's psyched for the S80. He's only sat in one thus far, but has been watching them now and is going to go test drive one this week. I believe he'll be most satisfied.

George,
Make sure he gets one with nice wheels be it 2.9 or T6. I think the Arrakis look best on the S80. Watch out for those base S80 wheels, man some of those are just fugly and ruin the car totally!
-Drew

We actually got the Canopus on my wife's car, the Arrakis looked way too hard to clean, especially with the brake dust.
quote:
George,
Make sure he gets one with nice wheels be it 2.9 or T6. I think the Arrakis look best on the S80. Re: Some S80 Questions (T5 Dave)

I'm going to try to land the color combos he wants, and options. I'll keep an eye out for a different set of wheels for him if the stockers are crappy. That's the fun part.

Re: Some S80 Questions (mpeng168)

I'm not sure a wheel like the Volan would fit. It's a 17, so it would clear the brakes, but I've been told that offset on the S80 is 48mm and on the 850 is 40mm.
George

Re: Some S80 Questions ([email protected])

A coule of things.
On the dark green, looks like we're incorrect. There's a dark green '00 2.9 (early production, so built late in '99) at Stadel Volvo in Lancaster, PA. It was a local car sold new from them to a local lawyer and traded with 30k on the odo. Nice car, but we're not going to get it.
Why? A friend of mine who does a lot of Volvo business just picked up a '99 that he bought at auction solely because it was unique. It's a black on black 2.9 with DSTC and Navigation. I got the vin, in the 58000 so I think we are okay. I ran a carfax and it was a manufacturer car, probably a Volvo company car, thus the high equipment spec and rare color combo for a 2.9.
It only has 29,000 miles on it also, so it looks like a winner.

Re: Some S80 Questions ([email protected])

Dad went and looked at it today. He likes it, so we're going to buy it I believe. I haven't seen the car yet, but my dad tells me it has 17" wheels on it also. He wasn't sure which ones.
I also found some more info on the car through a contact at Volvo. It WAS a company car. A Lincoln employee bought it in '99 and took it to Irvine when they moved. So it's seen use in Michigan and Southern California.
Here's the wierd thing. The tranny was replaced. Any ideas what that might be?

Re: Some S80 Questions ([email protected])

I can't speak to the transmission problem, but I can speak to the wheels. I've got the 17" Arrakis' on my S80. It takes me as long to clean the wheels as it does to wash the rest of the car. The price of vanity, I guess....

Yeah, we'll see about the O-rings I guess.
I'm kind of hoping the car has the Canopus wheels on it. They'll be a lot easier for him to maintain.
