Where can I find some details about the '94-'95 850 racing series. The cars are just too nice to forget...Oh, and some pics for my desktop would be nice too.
Thanks
Duke Video is where I buy my BTCC videos.
They have some serious Volvo action in '95 tape and that was the only year for the wagons if you're looking for them specifically.
Those cars are super solid and I used to laugh as the other competitors would bounce off them during scaps... I think Rydell drove that year too.

Can't wait to see some of these cars in action. Anybody here race at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia? I am tempted to take mine over there this year for some SAFE playtime! (no paint exchanging for me thanks) If there are some gatherings of Volvo's within a few hundred miles of Washington DC, where can I find out about them? I am looking forward to meeting some of my "peers".
all hail the Volvo touring wagon! I have the 94 BTCC season review & it also has the wagons in action
it was the greatest touring car of ALL time (even though the best it ever placed was 4th or something... )

First, apologies for the rather extensive bandwidth, but I hope none of you mind.
And sorry it took a while to get back.
I did manage to hunt around and find several different Volvo touring cars of various vintages.
One source for a number of excellent photos and wallpapers (all S40 as far as I can tell) is Volvo Car Corporation's Racing Site
I also scrounged up:

Don't forget that Tamiya has a 1/24 scale model of the 850 BTCC sedan, and IIRC, there was an "estate" version available at one point.

There were Minisport and other brand diecasts on the market as well, but I'm not familiar with some of the sources to find those (I always relied on my local auto enthusiast shop).
There's also a rather extensive picture gallery spanning the 850 sedans in `96 to the last BTCC S40's at Red Shoes Racing.
A rather well done, albeit brief history of Volvo's touring car effort can be found at http://www.lawsworld.co.uk/ . To save the wading around, the actual Volvo page can be found right here.
Don
Your Killin me. Tim Law and I are working on the history of BTCC article right now. You keep spoiling my suprises with the motorsport section.
I also have a pretty large gallery I am working on right now.
-Chuck
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 12-06-2000).]
Chuck, I'm sorry `bout that. Just want to share with the class.
This and my other post just about taps out most of the "good" stuff that I've been able to find, as I got interested in the BTCC in `94, but not the flying Bricks until `96 or `97, when other photos on the `Net were mostly already in archives. It's pretty darn hard to find good and high quality photos of the 850 estates and even the sedans these days. Most people probably have copies on their hard drives, but not on the `Net in general.
I really look forward to the Motorsport additions, Chuck. Especially if you can dig up some Volvo rally references and photos.
I'm a fan, not even a Volvo owner, and this site is great, and getting better all the time.

George,
I don't know how solid the relationship with Volvo Cars is yet, but do you think they would have an internal photo archive for all of the promotional and event images taken over the years?
I would be great to see some kind of public repository for that kind of material and Swedespeed might just be the place!

There was recently a post on the Brickboard about a Volvo day at a track in CA, so now I'm just waiting to see when the same kind of thing will happen at Summit Point (click the "events" link at http://volvoclubdc.com/). I'd love to get my 240 out on the track.

CA sounds like it would be a fun time, just getting there would be a blast Anyhow, I'll check out the link you gave and see if we can have some fun. As I understand it, there is a few weeks of "test and tune" at the track that is generally safe, but I will have to stay out of the way of the GT-2 cars and avoid creaming the Neons. Mmmmmmmm, fun.
Tamiya makes a 1/10 scale R/C car of the 1995 Volvo 850 racing car, or at least I think they still make it. One of my friends bought that vehicle and it was awesome. I used to be deep into R/C cars, and yes I have the R/C body (two of them) of the 850 Estate. One is painted yellow and the other the true BTCC colors, these are manufactured by Factory Works and is 190mm width. I also picked up the 850 sedan body from Kyosho, (I had the tamiya body which I turned into a rally car and I have the kyosho body which is also true BTCC colors. Kyosho also made a 1/10 scale R/C car (which I have) of the 1997 Volvo S40 Racing car. I think they stopped making this one among other touring cars they made. Kyosho also made a gas powered 1/8 scale model of the 1998 Volvo S40 Racing car, my honest opinion is that Kyosho is a little less quality than I would like.
CEN makes a R/C car of the 1998 Volvo S40 racing car as well, four wheel drive (I also owned this one at one point, very very good car until it was smashed into by a Serpent, those of you in the R/C world know what that is)
You guys can check out a few pictures I have so far of the R/C cars on my website, www.classiccats.cc (see Gallery then on the lower left hand side you'll see the section for R/C cars gallery) Along with a section for my S40 Project car. There's also a history section on the racing cars (sorry Chuck hehehe) in the CoolStuff section from the front page.
Carlos
2001 Volvo S40 "Volvo for life"
I dropped the R/C stuff almost a year ago, it just got to expensive to maintain and to race. But as you can see i'm into the real cars now. I still havent gotten to see 1/5 scale cars race. There is a track near my house in some backwoods area where they are supposed to have 1/5 scale racing on an oval track. Dude if you get that 1/5 scale 850 your going to have to send me some pics!!!
Carlos
2001 Volvo S40 "Volvo for life"
OUCH! I thought 50$ a body was bad! What are the 1/5 scale body's made of? I may not race mine anymore but I would also love to do an 850 R/C body of Peter Brocks 1996 850 race car. Hmmm.. maybe that's what i'll do with my tax return! LOL!!
I'm also going to get another S40 body (1/10 scale) and paint it up to look like my S40.
Carlos
2001 Volvo S40 "Volvo for life"
The body is made of .080" thick lexan with some thicker areas around the bumpers, roof, pillars, and exhaust notches. The bodys come 100% cut and polished. Also, they come in 4 pieces. Bumpers (front and rear), spoiler, and center section. The craftsmanship is stellar. The cars have a full roll cage, 23cc and larger 2-stroke motors, 4 wheel disk brakes, 2 speed trans, and 5mm+ thick chassis. Check out www.sei-racing.com for some cool info and pricing. They are neat as all getout. Mine is about 3 yrs old but they still make the same exact car. Much easier to use in regards to not needing special "glow" fuel, glow plugs, and serious maintenance. I can carry it with me during the warm months and use it anytime without getting dirty or carrying more than just the car and transmitter. Mine has been clocked at 78 MPH after I did some engine mods and found a large enough area to run WOT for a while. With it weighing in at 23 lbs, it takes a while to stop without spinning
