Went to do some work on the car today, including replacing the TCV on a hunch that it would fix my lacking responsiveness and power loss. Found out that the TCV had actually found its way (or was relocated by some jackass) to the other side of the airbox right near the engine head.... It was floating freely among extremely hot engine components and had even began to burn at a cross pipe it was resting against.. Then I checked around a little more and found some other stranges pieces...

this was under the plastic cover on the driver's side, wasnt connected and couldnt find the male end.

this is at the front part of the engine bay again under the plastic cover. it has a track for some kind of connection, but there were no wires or a connection piece.
am i going crazy or did i buy a lemon?

Without looking at a wiring diagram, I can't tell you what those things are. Nevertheless, Volvo will often-times use 1 wiring harness for, say, the S60, regardless of the options that are actually on the car.
Just for example, if you had a S60 without fog lights, you would see what you're seeing now. Wiring that goes to nowhere, because that particular option isn't installed on the vehicle.

Re: Some detective work revealed a nasty surprise... (R Salesman)

ok, that's pretty much what i figured since ive seen that before. just wanted to be safe since im still new to what im working with/screwing up.
i removed the sock from the air filter while i was under the hook, then latched down the filter so it wouldnt come flying out with the top removed. with the top portion of the airbox gone it sounds a lot better, but i might have lost some performance.
