I was just informed that one of my Solenoid Valves is out in the automatic transmission of my 850 Wagon and that it would be $1000 to replace it. Has anyone replaced one of these before? If so, how difficult of a job is it?
What does the part run?
Thanks,
Kiva

Re: Solenoid Valve - replacing it (scrappyj0)

This is NOT DYI job. Experianced TRANSMISSION mechanic only.
U SURE it's that part that's bad?
Trans has to come apart, might as well have it rebuilt or buy a rebuilt or used tranny

Re: Solenoid Valve - replacing it (scrappyj0)

I have done theses plenty of times. Not a do it yourself type of job.(As JRL mentioned) Takes about 5 good hours.
Have you been doing your trans services?
They usually go bad when they get some dirt stuck in them. Try a Trans Flush first. Its much cheaper and it might work.
Did the shop tell you which solenoid it was. STH,SL,S1,S2?

How do you go about flushing the transmission? I have never done this before. Thanks for your help!

http://www.volvospeed.com in the maitenance section shows you how. Also, http://www.ipdusa.com has a pdf file that shows the same, or about the same process. You'll have to look that up in their transmission section....parts for the flush they sell. Good luck!
