AWD problem. In the last rain I noticed excessive front wheel spin and torque-steer under power on my '04 R (38,000 miles). It seems that the Haldex is sending little or no power to the rear wheels. This occures with the traction control on or off.

I have an appointment Friday at Neflan Volvo in Thousand Oaks to check it out, but the service writer says he doubts anythings wrong. He said that's just the way the car is, it's not comparable to other AWD systems that function at low speed in bad traction situations He added that if there was a problem the warning message light would have come on, but they will put on the computer to check it.

Help! Is he right? My friend's Volkswagen R32 doesn't appear to have this problem. Also if it's a mechanical problem will it show up on a "computer" check? What evidence can I use to convince them it's a real problem? Other local Dealers that really know about "R's"? Sorry search out so no access to threads.

Re: Sol Cal R needs help (JimLill)

No, this is not normal, especially the torque steer.

Do not let them tell you it is.

I've slammed on gas in the wintertime with the DSTC off (TRACS still on of course) and never gotten "excessive front wheel spin" and never had any torque steer, ever, even in the rain.
