Wife and father in law are fine, Camry that my wife hit is very much totaled (driver was ok too). Other lady blew a stop sign crossing the highway and got t-boned by our Volvo. Car did its job…sigh

Thanks all…that’s what I told my wife as it was her first ever accident and she was a little shaken. Our airbags didn’t deploy, but the curtain airbags on car she hit did. Will take better pics when I get home and we can play the “guess what it’s gonna cost to fix” game.

what the other car looked like…

Pretty solid hit…bumper flared out on both ends, hood pushed up and to the passenger side onto fender, both headlights lenses cracked, etc…at least no airbags deployed (would’ve been an extra unnecessary slap in the face literally)

So anyone wanna guess what it’s gonna cost to fix?

I dont think it’s that bad…at least hope it isn’t. My guess is $13.5k…about $5k for headlights, and another $6-8k for bodywork/paint.

Took the car for a spin…drives straight and everything still works as intended other than parking sensor error. Headlights are pointed down a bit, but they still work fine including the active curve feature. Ripped off the pieces that are hanging and told the wife she can keep driving it until it gets taken to shop

Yeah… I’m thinking with diminished value, it might be a total 😞. The hood, hood struts, hood latch assembly, and everything they attach to possibly, the bumper, grill, all sensors, headlight assemblies, fog lights, front camera assembly, and anything else under the hood or behind the bumper that we can’t see. I’ll bet it will exceed $15k.

Hood, bumper cover, headlights on an 88k mile, 6 year-old car is a total unfortunately.

Silver lining, at least you don't have to address the brakes now.

Glad your family is okay!

And some portion of the extended warranty prorated refund. 🤷‍♂️

I still think the repairs will fall well under $15k, especially since no mechanical issues or airbag deployment. KBB has private party value at about $25-26k, so if repairs exceed $18k then yes likely to be totaled.

At this point can only wait and see what the estimate comes back at. Would be difficult to replace this car…took me several months to find, and got a great deal when purchased cpo (had original $83k msrp…ludicrous for a t6) and wife has really grown used to the massage seats.

No it didn’t because my wife was already hard on the brakes by the time the car entered her trajectory. I’m guessing impact was at around 15-20mph…she was traveling at 50-55 before Camry tried to squeeze thru intersection from a perpendicular stop sign.

Taking it in for an estimate later this week…will see what they say. The actual amount the front end was pushed in is minimal…doesn’t appear to have come anywhere near the radiator/core support/etc. I’m hopeful that it won’t need much more than a complete bumper/valance/grill, hood/hinges, headlights, and bumper bar.

Already looking at replacements just in case, but can’t see really wanting anything other than an xc90 or a cx90 (lol). Everything else that would fit our criteria would be more pretentious that I’d prefer.

Lol with the PS brakes she probably would’ve been rear-ended.

GV80 is really nice, especially that green/brown interior. But to get one properly specced would be close to $80k, and still driving a fancy Hyundai.

Preliminary estimate from adjuster - $17,700, of which parts are about $12,500 and rest is labor/paint/tax. Big ticket parts are headlights ($3100/ea), front complete bumper assembly ($1600), and hood ($1950). Adjuster felt we weren’t anywhere near the repairs needed to total car, which is great news! Hopefully that remains the case…

Taking it to body shop later today so they can get main parts ordered…don’t want to drop car off until majority parts here due to rental coverage time limits.

While obviously the smaller cousin, I recently landed my wife in a GV70 and she absolutely loves it. If she needs the bigger space it won't work, but if she doesn't it's really worth a look. And a 2yr certified can be had for 40k'ish. And, surprisingly, the 2.5T is better than acceptable (the 3.5T is a blast, but really not necessary unless you gotta).

and still driving a fancy Hyundai.
No, sorry. Have owned a couple of Hyundais, including well spec'd ones. Current generation Genesis is truly on another level. I dare say every manufacturer should be scared of what they're doing. No, it's not perfect, but dollar-for-dollar bang for the buck is off the charts compared to anyone else.

Not sparring, just my experience.

ps - Glad to hear the XC is repairable and, more importantly, no body was hurt. Still sucks, though.

Should have clarified my comments. Genesis makes a really nice vehicle for the price. The problem lies with the dealer network and Hyundai/Kia as a whole. I personally know 3 people with Hyundai/Kia vehicles that have had catastrophic failures (couple engine, forgot the other) that were supposed to be covered under warranty. Without getting into specifics, all were given ridiculous runarounds combined with constant SA turnover and threats of huge labor bill just to disassemble and check if engine was covered. All just decided to part with their vehicle and take a big loss (trade in, repo, etc) because they couldn’t afford the process Hyundai was putting them through.

My closest Genesis dealer (1 hr away) is owned by a neighboring Hyundai dealer, and the online reviews don’t indicate they’re any better than Hyundai.

These parts prices are going to total/junk so many cars as they get older, and headlights seem to be the worst offenders. Windshield glass is another bad one…new windshield on uncle’s gle580 was almost $2800 with labor/calibration and our Mercedes SA said that a new windshield for an S Class is almost $5k parts & labor. Pretty sure our xc90 windshield with HUD is close to $2k installed. Totally insane…
