First the damage...

Here's the story
I'm on my third day of residency and I'm on overnight call. The parking at my hospital is mostly free parking except for a physician's lot (which I can't park in) and a patient-only parking lot. I happened to miss a small sign for one particular lot that says it's reserved on weekends but it's adjacent to the lot we the house staff are supposed to park in. So I park there, do my 30 hour shift with no sleep and when I come out the next day ragged and tired I see that the lot I parked in is empty and my car isn't there. Interesting. Instead there are a bunch of motorcyclists who look like they're taking a license test. Great, my car got towed. I ask them where they towed the car and it turns out they just moved it to another lot. Ok not so bad. As I walk towards the car I immediately see the bumper hanging off the car. At this point I'm so tired I can't even believe what I'm seeing. Then later I realize the car was towed in gear with the e-brake on and probably just by the front wheels. Called the hospital police and they basically told me I'm SOL. So I guess another insurance claim for me. Great way to end a 30 hour sleepless day.
So questions:
1. What kind damage to the transmission/driveline can be done by towing this car by the front wheels while the e-brake is on and while the car is in gear?
2. Anybody recommend a good body shop in LA?

Towing companies are filled with idiots, I've noticed.
Unbelievable.
Do the fog lights and headlight wipers still function?

Re: (Chilled Man)

The sign said violators will be towed at owner's cost sort of thing. My insurance will cover it, I'm just hoping the towing company will fess up and pay my deductible back.

Yeah that covers the cost of towing not damaging your car.

Re: (Chilled Man)

You can sue the towing company big-time not only in the damage to your car, but also towing a known 4wd car inappropriately. Just show them the pictures of your car, and they will open up the wallet to pay for your deductable for sure. You might need a new bumper or even wiper motors. Why should your insurance have that mark on it if it was clearly the towing companies' fault? Have your Insurance company go after the towing company for reimbursement.
Now, there was REAL damage to your car which you can't see yet. For example, if your ebrake was indeed on, that rear right wheel was dragging as far as the car was towed, so you can go after them for that too. You could have ebrake damage (delamination, loss of life to pad, etc?) They probably messed up the ebrake adjustment too, so that costs as well. Just a cluster-F*K all around thinking about it. I'd be way more pissed about it than you seem to be.

Holy crap man that sucks. I would be going after them hard.
You are only liable for the cost of towing and storage....nothing else. If you still have the AWD badge on it, theey have NO excuse.

Damn! What a bunch of $hitheads!
I took my car to Piper's Bodyshop on Overland when my front bumper got whacked by a hit and run. They installed my VST kit as well.

Let's just say I've been in this situation before damage-wise which is why I'm not so pissed. More in utter disbelief. When the bumper gets torn off like this, I'll likely need new headlight units as the clips for the bumper get torn off. The wipers also got torn off. Fog lights too shot. Any kind of damage to the front end of these cars is way way way more than you expect.

Approaching security for footage might help with the towing company.
Most hospitals have cameras everywhere these days. IF they'll play ball...

Speaking of which, I'd be more worried about flat-spotting the rear tires when towing the vehicle with its arse end dragging about on the ground than the parking brake components which, while they suck all kinds of arse as an emergency brake, they actually work as designed for parking brake use.

I work at a hospital too!
That being said, often times they put a disclaimer on the parking registration that says they are not liable for any damage done to your car... by towing, hit and run.....
good luck though.

lol i just remembered from the first pic that one of my headlight wiper blades fell off and my Rkelly CAI came out along with the foglight grille. Looks like they just threw them on the ground next to the car when they were done. How courteous of them.
