Well you guys probably guess it I ran into a puddle and the car stalls on me. I was wondering if there, if any, quick repair I can do without taking it up with the insurance. BTW I do have the CAI.
so it's raining in houston and I didn't see the puddle...

How deep does a puddle have to be for you to not see it, and for it to hydrolock your car? I'm guessing there is a fine line there.

How low does your filter hang? How long did you stay in the puddle? Assuming you sucked some water up into your intake, and if you had it towed, and haven't tried to start it, you can take the plugs out and crank the motor to get the water out of your combustion chambers. I would also remove the intake manifold and make sure that is dry. Give it an oil change too, just to be safe. I don't know how the pcv works on our cars, but there could be water in your oil.

Well the truck in front of me was hauling butt so i couldn't see much due to him splashing. Water was just below my door and this is with the H&R drop. I didn't stay in it for too long since I knew what happened.

If you hydrolocked the motor it is done for. Best thing to do is pull the dipstick and check what the oil looks like. If it looks like peanut butter the motor is toast. If the oil looks ok pull the plugs out and crank the car over to get the water out and then let the car sit to dry out. The bad thing about water is it doesnt compress to well and this leads to bent rods, pistons, and valves. Speaking from experience with a Jetta that this happened to, it got totalled out (and was 1 year old).

yeah I'm sure its gone even though I don't want it to be. They already towed it to the Volvo of Houston and my adjuster will be out there on Monday. To tell you the truth it was a road I frequently go on so I knew or thought I knew how bad it was. Question though... to replace the engine vs the trade in value of 8k yall think itll be a total?

It comes down to what the adjuster will do. With mine if I had the time I would have bought the car back and done a new motor install myself. If this is a daily driver I say scrap it and get a new one. On 8K worth of trade in value I would say it is done for. The totaled value to fix is around 2/3 the trade in value so at 5K it doesnt warrant a new engine and install. If they did a fix it would be more than likely a used motor which you will always be rolling the dice on.
Again I am sorry to hear this happened to you, it is painful and I wouldnt wish this on anyone.
Hopefully you have a good adjuster that will help you out a bit.

Also make sure you gut off any performace parts off the car. You get zero cash for them when an adjuster takes a look at the car. You may be able to sell some of them off or use them on a new car. Once the adjusters cut the check the car belongs to them and you are SOL on getting any of your stuff back.

The only thing I can think of that has any value are my wheels and my Sirius radio. I think I'll switch those out this weekend since I saved my stocks. Look for a thread on wheels and poll on what car I should get lol.

I would get that lip kit off, and CAI.
But then again, if I was in your situation, I'd be buying it back and hunting for a wrecked R to put in my otherwise perfectly good S40.
