Hey All,
I just moved to So Cal from Denver and am thinking of getting rid of the R. I love the thing to death but I'm able to ride my bike to work/beach and only drive her a few times a month.
It's a shame to just let the car sit in the garage and depreciate.
Anyways, about the car:
04 MT (6 speed)
Black with Nordkap
55,000 miles on her.
a few scratches, nothing major.
100% stock, no mods, no body kit.
She's sitting on 17's with Goodyear Eagle F1's A/S that are about 10,000 miles old.
Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
Cheers!
Tox

Hang on to it! Even if it is a garage queen, it will come in handy in the winter with the local mountains and drives to mammoth. Plus, us SoCal R owners are few and far between. Its always a joy to see a fellow R owner around.
Mine gets driven maybe three of four times a month. Defintely the garage queen, but always a fun ride.

Re: So Cal R for Sale (PM)

True. I've seen very few R's in the sort time I've been here. I did have a fun drive down the PCH a few weeks ago with a v70R.
Alright, alright I'll hold on to it.
The one thing that's been killing me is where do I put my surf board? Do I dare buy racks? I always think nice cars look tacky with roof racks, but stuffing my 9'4" in the trunk of my R sucks, not to mention I'm getting sand everywhere and have to detail the damn thing once a month.

I put the long board on top and the short board inside.
I always bring both with me, so sometimes the long board has to go in the car when I paddle out with the short board that day. No biggie, just the lay the front seat down (lean the seat back really far) and put towls in the appropriate areas, then just slide it right in.
My LB is a 9'4" and the SB is 6'1"
Personally, the R looks sexy with the racks and even sexier with a LB on it...just kinda adds to the sporty utility of the car...makes me drool. Now I want to clean the car up, throw the racks on with the LB and snap a pic!!!

Re: (so_calR)

What racks are you using? I was browsing around online and it didn't look like I could use any aftermarket rack so I'm assuming I would have to get a factory installed rack. Any idea of the cost?
-Tox

Just get the standard Volvo ones without the euro rails. I believe this is just two cross beams (made by Thule too).
I just wrapped some of that round foam stuff (I think for pipe insulation) around the bars and wrap it with some electrical tape.

it does, but does not go down far enough...
I lay mine down backwards till the height of the headrest is even with the dashboard so the board doesn't have to rest on the leather in the front seat (since those get used way more than my back seats)
*edit* after reading more carefully I see u say it lays down FLAT...maybe my seat was too far forward and didn't clear when I tried that because I was not able to get it to fold down low enough...gonna try that when I get home.
*edit2* IMHO, the euro rails look less "sporty" than just the cross bars which are bigger and beefier looking than most things that attach to the euro rails. But again, that is just my preference (probably because that is how my car is )

Yeah, I lay mine back, you have to tilt it and everything, even then It's a squeeze.
How bad is installing the factory rails?

In terms of a Rack, the Volvo/Thule system is awesome.
(See http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=121500 for an idea of what it looks like....Volvo of OC will sell it to you for an exorbitant price:)
After that, add the Thule "Hang 2" system for one of the best surf rack systems I have ever seen. Forget stupid pads, this is what you want:
http://www.rei.com/product/717315
Fits every size board. Ive stacked it 4 high with a different strap and then drove to San Onofre doing 85 the whole way...trust me..these are awesome.
PS...anyone in SoCal who wants me to do their Euro Conversion lights, I'm thinking of doing another set for my Dad, so I'm gonna be shipping some stuff back east...anybody want in?

Re: (Storax)

I am surprised at how much these cars have DECREASED in value over the last 6-8 months... My car has dropped approximately $3k in that period of time... I mean to have such a rare car, I guess as far as Volvos are concerned, you would think the car would hold, but I guess to everyone else its just another "Volvo"... Wish mine would disappear to someone, or just disappear period... LMAO

Kinda off place, but since all the So Cal people are posting here and seem to surf...
I think I'm hitting up San-O Saturday morning. Swell has been really good here in Newport and I wouldn't mind some good Longboard waves...anyone interested??

Re:

Right now I'm enjoying the waves in Hawaii. Especially with all the hurricanes brushing us.
I'm from RSM... around the corner from Newport. Another spot I would suggest for you to check out is Salt Creek Canyon. It's where I generally surf.

Little closer to you than Onofre (Dolly Parton Memorial).
But honestly, longboards go to Poche for the killer Capos. It's just south of Doheny State Park... on PCH... Park near the Arco station. The other spots following that are Cotton's and Trestles.
Overall, you're in short board and body board country. With all the storms off Baja, the Wedge is primed right now for 25+ foot waves in Orange County. The sand barge off 17th street in Newport has to be pumping too. Generally the waves shift in the winter time when Los Angeles gets most of the waves and OC doesn't. That's when I would think you would get the longboard waves.
adding: I wouldn't get rid of the 'R' yet. You need to get involved with all the track stuff around So Cal.

Oh yeah, I know how the swell breaks up here...love the Long board on it too, I'm always the only one with the LB when it gets big means more waves for me!!!
The Point (spot south of the pier you mentioned) was 8ft + yesterday, watched two guys break boards...a little closed out. I surfed up in the upper 30's and middle 40's for a bit, it was a little more lined up, but really really crowded.
Anyways, maybe us So Cal R owners should do a meet up at the beach??

I'm in.
My vote: Trail 5 San-O....I'm coming from Fullerton, so once, I'm in the car, the extra few mins to get to SONGS is worth it to not have to fight for Parking:)....and the water is warmer from the Nuc:-D
