Well we just got a couple of inches of snow and I thought it would be great to test the R's winter capability with some proper snow shoes!
However there were a couple of things which concerned me.

First of all when I was on the highway and going 30mph (yes that was the median speed on the highway due to the weather), the car was shaking tremendously! It felt exactly like I was driving over a pair of rumblestrips!
This seriously concerns me as it felt like the car would fall apart any second! Does anyone know what might be the cause of this? ?

Secondly, the car behaved very similar to a FWD car when I floored it in the snow - the RPM's increased but the car did not acccelerate fast at all....
About a month or so ago I had one of the sensors for the AWD system replaced due to the AWD not working, so I dont think it could be system again...
I havent had any traction problems since they fixed the problem - until now.
My understanding was that the Haldex system behaved very well on snow, but today this did not seem to be the case for me

Re: Snowy experience.... (johanjaw)

The vibration is probably just snow stuck on the wheels causing an imbalance, though usually you only notice this above 45MPH or so. The shaking can be horrible though. Just clear the snow off the wheels.

Also, just because you get tire spin doesn't mean it's FWD, you can easily break all 4 tires loose in any gear with just an inch or two of snow once you hit the boost. Accelerate around corners and see if the back comes out (it should easily in snow if your AWD works).

So true..........and it is even more fun when rounding a corner.

Re: Snowy experience.... (MagoonR)

Your lack of accelleration is probably do to the anti spin feature of the AWD system. These cars allow almost no wheel spin before the power is pulled from the wheel that slips. The 2007's allow virtually no wheel spin. If you turn off the DSTC system you will notice more accelleration on slippery roads. I mentioned in a post here a week ago that if you are going uphill on a very slippery road, not only will the car take power away from a wheel that wants to spin, but it can also apply brake. You will have the car floored and it will feel like the engine is going to stall. Just hit the DSTC button methodically 5 times. oclv

Thanks all for the replies! I will do another run today and see if the problems persists after I have done these mods.
